Sad, he was the one who gave the Mets their first case of respectability.

He started his career in New York with the NY METS was apart of the team who pulled the upset in '69 WORLD SERIES over the Baltimore Orioles.

Tom epitomized class and the way a professional athlete should conduct himself. Sad news indeed.

I wish him and his family the best. Dementia is brutal.

:? Why not one of the NY Mets greats? He was part of the 2 World Series teams in New York. None with Reds.

I remember him only as a Met. I couldn’t remember the team he was traded to till I read about this.

I only remember him as a Red - his Mets years were before my time (I can only remember back to roughly 1979 or so in terms of baseball, and I think 1980 was my first complete baseball card set.

In 1986 Tom Terrific played for both the White Sox and the Roid Sox.

When I first became a baseball fan, Seaver was doing great things with the Reds, my favorite team....

Red were the 3rd best team in the 1970's. Oakland and then the Yankees with several former Oakland players.

So the Reds sweeping the Yanks 4-0 in the World Series in 1976 just didn't count then?

Doesn't change the fact they're the 3rd best team in the '70's. :coffee:

The 1976 Yankees didn't have the Straw that Stirred the Drink, Reggie Jackson, or Ron Guidry, or Bucky Dent, or Goose Gossage, or Mike Torres and a few other pay to play guys. Yankees pitching staff of 1977 & 78, was also a lot better than the Reds.

Pirates, Dodgers and Orioles also deserve some consideration as team of the 70s.
