Yes, the Yanks will go all in on Cole. Either they get him or someone like the Angels will pay a lot more for him than they hoped. But no team is going to have more to spend on Cole. After buying back the YES Network earlier this year, Yankees/YES are establishing YES as the first OTT baseball network in time for the 2020 season. So YES will be a national network which owns rights to the Yankees, as well as the American rights to the fastest growing brand in international soccer, Manchester City FC. YES is also said to be in the mix for acquiring US rights to FC Barcelona and an Italian soccer club, either Juventus or AC Milan. In the past, the young Steinbrenners have tried to keep the salary under $200 million per year. Next year, luxury tax costs will be far less consequential to a network looking to grow a national footprint, funded by investors who just kicked in $3.5 billion to make YES an OTT.

As for Girardi, my guess is that the Mets hesitated because of fears that he's too old-school to relate to modern players. That is essentially what the Yankees concluded.

Good acquisition (Wheeler). Now Girardi and company will go after Didi Gregorius. Not worried about Hamels.

I'm waiting for 93 to start the new thread. Until then, Wheeler is a good pickup - still young, decent, and with plenty of upside. Verducci had a long article on how good he could be once he throws more 4 seam fastballs.
