I was born in Minneapolis, but we moved to Detroit when I was 2. So my pro sports allegiances are to Detroit teams. Even though I've lived in NC since 7th grade (1973) and consider myself a North Carolinian. And yes, it is sports hell right now, but times will get better. Except for the Lions. Although they were good in 1957-three years before I was born.Ivytalk wrote: ↑Mon Feb 24, 2020 8:52 amWe’re you born in Detroit?AshevilleApp wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2020 3:42 pm Red Wings eliminated from the playoffs before the trade deadline. Tigers suck.
Wings really suck.
Pistons suck.
Lions have always sucked.
Sports hell.

89, I have a friend trying to get me to go tonight. It's Player's Club suite #3. Sounds nice, but I was wondering if you have any thoughts/experiences. I've made laps around CapitalOne but have never been inside.
Compelling game. Flyers could pull within a point of the Craps.

You should definitely go. Easily the best sports atmosphere in DC/Baltimore (Ravens would be second). It used to be that when the Flyers were in town probably 25-40% of the fans were in orange. That's not the case anymore. The Caps actually have basically sold out every game for 10 years like the Flyers used to. But it's very safe to wear opposition colors in CapOne.93henfan wrote: ↑Wed Mar 04, 2020 8:57 am 89, I have a friend trying to get me to go tonight. It's Player's Club suite #3. I personally don't like to go to Caps/Flyers games because of my split loyalty. I always root for a regulation tie with the team that needs the points more getting the W. Right now, neither team is hurting for points, so I'm OK with either winning tonight.
Suites are fun, but like any venue, you're pretty shielded from the atmosphere and it's more like watching from your living room IMO. Don't get me wrong, a fully stocked suite is something I would never turn down.
Re: 2019-20 NHL Season
You said exactly what I was thinking, namely that a suite would suck some of the excitement out. I'd rather be in the lower bowl.89Hen wrote: ↑Wed Mar 04, 2020 11:33 amYou should definitely go. He has four tickets (to what I guess is his company's suite - it's one of the big health insurance companies). I told him to seek other takers but if he's left holding a single by 5 when I get to my car on Kent Island, I'll head back in to the swamp.
Sleep is overrated.

Re: 2019-20 NHL Season
There is however a giant difference in lower bowl suites vs upper suites. Lower bowl is much more a part of the arena. I believe Player's Club are the ones behind the Caps defending twice goal and are kind of in between. This view...93henfan wrote: ↑Wed Mar 04, 2020 12:20 pm You said exactly what I was thinking, namely that a suite would suck some of the excitement out. I'd rather be in the lower bowl.

Meh. I think I'm going anyway.
I went to one game at the Cap Centre in ~1990 and the Flyers got raped. Dale Hunter had a helluva game. Wanna say it was something like 6-2 or so and Hunter had a couple of goals at least.

And fuck. Accident on Bay Bridge. Waze says hour and a half to cross. Would miss faceoff and most of first period. Gonna skip the game.
I hate this fucking area with a passion.
Eight years until retirement. Deep breaths. Deep breaths.

You and me both. But I fear I've got more than 8. I find myself looking at houses in NC online these days.

At least I got to catch most of it on NBCSN. Nice win while resting Hart. The Orange and Black are red hot at the moment.

Hart and the Sixers have to learn how to win on the road.
Especially the Sixers.

Watch out for flying ice skates. A Canadien's player slipped on the ice and his skate cut Boylchuck on the eye lid. Apparently needed 90 stitches (not sure how you can get that many stitches in your eyelid) but apparently no vision loss so very lucky overall.
Re: 2019-20 NHL Season
Was it Buffalo that had the goalie's jugular severed by a skate, like 30 years ago. That was scary.tribe_pride wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2020 7:55 am Watch out for flying ice skates. Yes and a Panthers player just as bad more recently. Both occurred in Buffalo.93henfan wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2020 8:04 amWas it Buffalo that had the goalie's jugular severed by a skate, like 30 years ago. Was toying with the idea of heading up to Pittsburgh on Saturday for Caps game. Family birthday party in the way at the moment.

Let me get this straight: you’ll drive the better part of a day to watch Ovie against Cindy, but you won’t drive to frickin’ Leipsic for crabs. Got it!

Driving my wife to an away Caps games = major brownie points I can bank for golf trips.
Driving to Leipsic to drink beer = large withdrawal of said points.

Don't you have to cross some wasteland to get to Pittsburgh? Any concern about the Mad Max type raiders running you down out there in the wasteland?

Sorry I hurt your feelings Gil. You really are sensitive these days.
