2019 MLB World Series
Almost forgot to do this.
Re: 2019 MLB World Series
I think the 2-3-2 format benefits Washington here if they pick up a win in Houston Tues or Wed. They either win in 5 or the Astros win in 7 if the Nats let them escape the Capital. Because I despise Washington's fans, I voted Astros in 7.

Re: 2019 MLB World Series
The MLB stat junkies have concluded that this series will have the best combined starting pitching of any World Series in history. I love a good pitcher's duel, so I am looking forward to watching this series.
I went with 'stros in 6 - mostly because I think they have a slightly better pen.

Astros in 7. Best overall starting pitching in a single WS that I can remember.

I kinda wanted Strasburg/Cole and Scherzer/Verlander in the first two but Martinez switched them.Ivytalk wrote:Astros in 7. Best overall starting pitching in a single WS that I can remember.

Re: 2019 MLB World Series
similar pitching, better offense for the 'Stros.

I'm afraid I agree.AZGrizFan wrote:similar pitching, better offense for the 'Stros.

One funny thing is that NL teams are usually at a disadvantage in the AL park because of not having a true DH, but the way Kendrick has been hitting while simultaneously sucking in the field, I actually like the Nats line-up better in the AL park.

Re: 2019 MLB World Series
Question: Are we going to see a reversion to the old formula of starting one's ace in Games 1, 4, and 7? Or is that yet another thing for the trash heap like complete games and stealing bases and hit-and-run attacks?

Re: 2019 MLB World Series
I would bet that the Nats (unless down 3-0) are going with Scherzer, Strasburg, Corbin then Sanchez. Sanchez has been strong giving up only 1 run in 5 innings to Dodgers and shutout the Cardinals over 7 innings. Astros have more of a who knows after the first 3 guys and could do what they did in Game 4 against the Yankees or could do 1,4,7.SuperHornet wrote:Question: Are we going to see a reversion to the old formula of starting one's ace in Games 1, 4, and 7? I would bet they use Corbin in relief if Scherzer or Strasburg get knocked out but the game is still close. Especially in Game 1. They would need a strong lefty in that situation.tribe_pride wrote:I would bet that the Nats (unless down 3-0) are going with Scherzer, Strasburg, Corbin then Sanchez. Good call and Corbin is still available to start Game 4 at this point since he just pitched 21 pitches.CAA Flagship wrote:I would bet they use Corbin in relief if Scherzer or Strasburg get knocked out but the game is still close. Re: 2019 MLB World Series
Always a good way to sell merchandise. Twins also celebrate their Minnesota part of the franchise as do other teams. Teams do keep in touch with their history too. Lakers credit the 5 NBA titles in Minnesota. Players like Jose Vidro didn't get traded from Montreal to Washington, Frank Robinson remained the manager without switching franchise.89Hen wrote:The pennant on my office wall says suck it.Gil Dobie wrote:51 years and the Expos/Nats franchise finally get to a World Series.

Or does it say, "We suck." So bad, that we're going to pretend that nearly 40 years of futility didn't happen?89Hen wrote:The pennant on my office wall says suck it.Gil Dobie wrote:51 years and the Expos/Nats franchise finally get to a World Series.

I assume you meant to say Washington? There are Expos on the ring of honor at Nats Park, which IMO is stupid. Aint a single Nats fan that cares about Gary Carter.Gil Dobie wrote:Twins also celebrate their Minnesota part of the franchise...
Growing up I don't recall a single 76ers fan talking about the 1955 Syracuse Nationals NBA title.
I also don't know a single Ravens fan that cares about the Cleveland Browns.
Glad you're a big fan of Minnesota great Walter Johnson.

Re: 2019 MLB World Series
I meant Minnesota, as they have tributes to make money on merchandise for anniversary years. The Twins did give away a Walter Johnson bobblehead a few years back. The more successful a franchise is, the more likely they include the original locations in celebrations. Washington Senators/Montreal Expos, not so much, NY Giants/Brooklyn Dodgers so much more.89Hen wrote:I assume you meant to say Washington? I don't disagree with that, but if the Yankees moved to Las Vegas tomorrow, would they really celebrate 27 World Series victories? I wouldn't.Gil Dobie wrote:The more successful a franchise is, the more likely they include the original locations in celebrations. Re: 2019 MLB World Series
Well, in the Ravens case, the NFL made Modell leave all the records and everything Browns (uniforms, logos, etc) in Cleveland when he moved the team. Little different in that case.89Hen wrote:I assume you meant to say Washington? There are Expos on the ring of honor at Nats Park, which IMO is stupid.
