Kaepernick Try-out: Legit Opportunity or Sham?

Post by Col Hogan »

Apparently, Colin Kaepernick will get a NFL-wide tryout this Saturday in Atlanta...
NFL clubs were informed Tuesday that a private workout will be held for free-agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick on Saturday in Atlanta, according to a copy of a memo obtained by ESPN.

In the memo, the league said: “Earlier this year, we discussed some possible steps with his representatives and they recently emphasized his level of preparation and that he is ready to work out for clubs and be interviewed by them. We have therefore arranged this opportunity for him to work out, and for all clubs to have the opportunity to evaluate his current readiness and level of interest in resuming his NFL career.”

Kaepernick was given two hours to accept or reject the “offer” and the location was non-negotiable...

Why is this even news? Dude lost his last 9 games he QB’ed, had a 49 QB rating....

If Brock Osweiler came back after a three year layoff would it be this big of a fucking deal?

No, because he’s white and he didn’t kneel.

This is a CYA for the NFL. I doubt he will have much of a work out, he will look bad and that will be that.

I think it’s legit. However, if he doesn’t make a team then people will cry foul.

From the NFL standpoint, I think it's legit, but also CYA. They are doing it at a time where QBs are hurt throughout the league. Even if he doesn't get signed, it will be an opportunity to give teams something to think about during the off-season. It's a no lose situation for Kaepernick.

I doubt many coaches will be there because of the timing (Saturday). It will mostly be scouts, but that's their job.

This is obviously the NFL trying to put him to bed for good

The guy lives for publicity - everything he has done has been engineered with that aim in mind

This will be his last hurrah

Why:
- Saturday and not Tuesday?
- such a short lead time?
- so little time for Kap to consider the opportunity?
- won't they tell Kap what the workout will entail?
- or who he'll be working out with?
- or which teams will be there?

This workout is very different than a typical college pro day.

The problem is he's better than Mitch Trubisky... and anybody playing for the JETS
He has a legitimate shot

If he is offered, he won’t sign, makes him irrelevant.

I would take the pre-Gase Darnold over Kap but the he is definitely better than the backups the Jets were using while Darnold was hurt. I also wonder if Gase is doing permanent damage to Darnold.

Trubisky seems to pull a good game out of his a$$ just frequently enough to give suckers hope for his potential. Does Pace have the introspection and backbone necessary to admit that he blew that one and move on? I believe the Bears traded two 3rds and a 4th round pick to move up 1 spot in the draft to get Trubisky when they could have stayed put or possibly moved down and picked up Mahomes or Watson. Hindsight is 20/20 but oops!

Well almost everybody had Watson higher than Trubisky
but nobody had Mahomes pegged correctly

Well, Veach was a heckuva player for the Blue Hens, so he was already far ahead of most folks. :thumb:

Believe it or not, there are idiots out there that seem to think white people can protest on the job in a way that ticks off their employer's customer/client/fan base and not lose their job. So you have to try and placate these idiots that think racism is the reason teams don't want a mediocre QB.

Hey, he would've been signed by the Ravens except Colin's then (maybe still, don't know) girlfriend called Ray Lewis an uncle Tom and referred to Ravens owner Bisciotti as a slave owner. You don't endear yourself to future employers by denigrating them publicly before expecting them to offer you a multi-million dollar job.

Pwns: Mediocre? Stop giving him more credit than he deserves. Kaepernick has no talent whatsoever. Particularly when compared to Jimmy Garoppolo.

Incidentally, I saw a report in the paper today indicating that the Whiners are trying to soft-pedal attending this sham workout for fear of offending both Jimmy G. and his fans....
