Both are bologna picks. I'm still waiting for George Foster, Ken Griffey, Sr., and Pete Rose to get in....dbackjon wrote:Jeter and Walker elected
SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Jeter is a bologna pick? While he doesn't deserve 99.7% of the vote, he is a sure HOF.

Are you saying the 99.7% is too low or too high?

Go look at Robin Yount's #'s. He got 77% of the vote.CAA Flagship wrote:dbackjon wrote:

I'd have left him off too, just to keep it from being unanimous. You can argue Mariano as a unanimous, at least he's likely the best ever at his particular position. No one has ever argued Jeter is the best SS of all time. Most agreed he should've stopped playing SS later in his career as his fielding skills dropped off with age. He's a definite HOF'er, no one is denying that. Just saying that unanimous should be saved for the very special.CAA Flagship wrote:Jeter was 1 vote shy of unanimous. Re: 2020 Baseball Hall of Fame Voting
That's silly. You have a ballot and you choose. Why bring outside considerations into it? As a voter, you're not asked to solve the world's problems. Just choose the players that you think deserve to be in the HOF.GannonFan wrote:I'd have left him off too, just to keep it from being unanimous. And considering the blemishes on the ballot, how do you not choose Jeter when you have 10 votes to give?

Yeah. And since Clemens and Bonds didn't get much of an improvement this year and only have 2 years left, they likely are out until Veterans Committee votes them in eventually I have to believe.GannonFan wrote:Schilling should be a lock for next year now.

Re: 2020 Baseball Hall of Fame Voting
I don't need to use all my 10 and what's wrong with saying I want to honor the past when plenty of greats (really, all but Mariano) who didn't get in with a unanimous vote? Heck, I would've been the stick in the mud and I wouldn't have voted Mariano in unanimously, although his case for it was much stronger than Jeter's. And people using all of their 10 votes like they have to is why we have a flawed player like Scott Rolen actually be mentioned in the same breath as HOF.CAA Flagship wrote:That's silly. Re: 2020 Baseball Hall of Fame Voting
As it should be. Luckily the turnover in voters from old to young hasn't happened fast enough for people to brush away the rampant cheating that Clemens and Bonds participated in. Let them wait several more years and see if the Veteran's Committee is any more forgiving of their transgressions.tribe_pride wrote:Yeah. Pretty sparse next year after Schilling. He could be the only one. I'm not sure letting Schilling have the stage all to himself is a good idea. Look for maybe Omar Vizquel to have a crazy increase in votes to at least get someone else up there.

If he wasn't a Yankee he'd likely get in first ballot, but around 80%. Similarly, the Best SS ever to play the game - Omar Vizquel - if he was a Yankee he'd be in the hall already.
Jeter was a negative value SS.

A lot of eye candy to spread the votes around, thus lowering the percentage.AZGrizFan wrote:So?CAA Flagship wrote: Take a look at that ballot. There were 9 eventual HOFers on that ballot.

Oh stop already. Vizquel batted .272. Jeter batted .308. That's a significant difference.dbackjon wrote:Too high.CAA Flagship wrote:

Jeter also batted over .300 in the postseason. And that's not from a small sample size. It was the equivalent of a full season.
