"Steps down" as the Mets manager after reports that he was heavily involved in the Astros cheating as a player

At least he can say that he is undefeated as a manager.

Yesterday's Wall Street Journal had a story about the sign stealing mess, with this line:

“It’s possible Beltrán could be punished, but ... he is going to be managing the Mets, so that may suffice.”

Once again, cheaters avoid punishment.

Shouldn't every player face a suspension as well? I mean, wasn't Beltran a player when this happened in '17?

MLB granted the players clemency for truthful statements. So the only way a player will be disciplined is if it turns out the player lied.

MLB also doesn't want to penalize the franchises that didn't cheat.

Because so many of the players have moved to other teams, and those teams have budgeted their contracts into their overall salary strategy and talent evaluations, suspending those players now would impact franchises that had no involvement.

Granted, MLB could simply fine the players and let them play, but like you said, that's water under the bridge if clemency was granted.

I'm not sure how the Astros EVER thought this would stay quiet. Waaaaay too many people knew, and those people eventually become employees of someone ELSE.

The stupidity was strong in this one.
