Second most dominant basketball player to come out of Philly. :coffee:

Of course, he forgot where he came from, so it doesn't really matter.

He was charge with sexual assault, case dismissed. He admitted having sex with her, but denied the assault. Charges were withdrawn, and the Civil Suit was settled out of court. I don't think the lionization of Kobe is about his off-court exploits, but are about his performance on the court.

Charges were withdrawn because he threw a shitload of cash at her to make the case go away. Don't be naïve, Gil. He was a great basketball player. Let's leave it at that.

So honestly I haven't watched a lot of the coverage, but have you heard there is a video of the crash? I had it sent to me via cell pretty early yesterday. It looks very believable that it is in fact the footage. I just haven't heard any news media talking about this footage.

Agreed. Which is exactly why we don't need to canonize the motherfucker.

Washington Post Suspends Reporter After She Tweets About Kobe Bryant Rape Case
Washington Post reporter Felicia Sonmez was suspended Sunday after tweeting about the 2003 rape case against Kobe Bryant, who was among nine people killed hours earlier in helicopter crash in Calabasas, California.

After posting a link to a 2016 Daily Beast story detailing the rape accusations against the Lakers star, Sonmez then posted a screenshot of her work email inbox to illustrate the threats she received as a result, according to one screenshot and an independent reporter.

“National political reporter Felicia Sonmez was placed on administrative leave while The Post reviews whether tweets about the death of Kobe Bryant violated The Post newsroom’s social media policy,” Washington Post managing editor Tracy Grant in a statement to TheWrap. “The tweets displayed poor judgment that undermined the work of her colleagues,” she added.

Sonmez tweeted a link to the article with no caption, following it up to say she was receiving threats and believed “any public figure is worth remembering in their totality,” according to screenshots of the now-deleted tweets.

I was exhausted 10 minutes in. Listened to about 5 minutes of SIRIUS channel 86 (NBA) yesterday about 3 hours after the crash. Mother of God, you'd think he was the fucking Pope or a King or something. The idolization was just sickening. :ohno: :ohno:

After holding up the helicopter for other aircraft, they cleared the Sikorsky S-76 to proceed north along Interstate 5 through Burbank before turning west to follow U.S Route 101, the Ventura Highway.
Shortly after 9:40 a.m., the helicopter turned again, toward the southeast, and climbed to more than 2,000 feet. It then descended and crashed into the hillside at about 1,400 feet, according to data from Flightradar24.
When it struck the ground, the helicopter was flying at about 184 mph and descending at a rate of more than 4,000 feet per minute, the data showed.
184 MPH in the fog? What pilot is that stupid? 4,000 feet per minute decent rate? That tells me they may have had a mechanical failure. Do helicopters descend that fast? 93?

I think they are keeping it in the basketball realm.

They can, at that speed, but would need to be in a dive and bottom out the collective

There may have been some spacial disorientation on the part of the pilot

Or, yeah- something could have broken. I dealt with a crash of this same model in Lagos a few years back. It was flying along, then witnesses said they heard a bang, and then it did a Peter Pan right into Lagos lagoon

I never fly on damn helicopters when I can help it. I had no choice in Iraq and was white knuckle every time... infernal machines with 50k moving parts, all trying to destroy each other

If those #’s are accurate it goes against the current narrative that he accidentally flew into the side of the mountain.
