NFL Draft (or why LSU won the CFP championship)

I looked at the prospect rankings at https://thedraftnetwork.com/prospect-rankings. Looks to me like LSU may threaten to reach Ohio State's 2004 record of having 14 players selected in a 7 round NFL draft. 224 players will be selected and LSU has 13 prospects rated at that site as being in the top 200. Eight are rated in the top 50. Meanwhile 16 LSU players have been invited to the NFL combine. Not hard to see that getting 14 or maybe even more drafted is a possibility.

Alabama has 10 players rated in the top 224 at the linked site. Ohio State also has 10 in the top 224. Made me recall that I thought Ohio State was the biggest threat to LSU in the CFP field. There are 5 Clemson players and 4 Oklahoma players rated in the top 224.

The Clemson number should be 6. For some reason Travis Etienne decided to stay at Clemson for his senior year. That's kind of a rare thing nowadays. I've got to believe he'd have been a 1st round draft pick this year and maybe a high first round draft pick.

Etienne will likely be the first RB off the board in the 2021 draft. I don't think he would've been in this draft. Taylor and Swift would likely have gone before him, and Swift isn't even projected until somewhere in the 20's of the first round.

The off-season is absolutely the best time to listen to Redskins talk radio. I don't know if the team, Dan Snyder or the fans are more dysfunctional. They're talking about Tua, making an attempt to trade up to get Burrow, trading down to get Simmons and another pick... All I know is they will fuck this up.

I hope they get Tua. Nothing better than having two second string QBs and a never-ending controversy over which should be first string.

Well, LSU did tie Ohio State's record for a 7 round draft by getting 14 players taken yesterday. And I guess LSU has the edge as they had 5 players taken in the first round while Ohio State had 3 taken in the first round of the 2004 draft.

Honestly until I saw the draft projections after the 2019/2020 college football season I didn't realize how talented a team LSU had.

BTW I think Ohio State had the second most drafted this year at 10. Alabama had 9 taken.

Ohio State had 7 defensive players taken. Both of their cornerbacks went in the first round. I wish they hadn't blown that CFP semifinal against Clemson as I think we'd have seen a really interesting best offense in the country vs. best defense in the country matchup in the championship game had they gotten to it.

And the first 3 players taken were from Ohio State. ;)

2004 draft:
-Ohio St had 3 taken in the 1st round, 14 overall.
-Miami a still record six first round draft picks  , but after that was only three 7th rounders.

LSU set a new record this week with 10 picks 1st 3 rounds.
Thing is, Bama was just behind LSU with four 1st round picks, and tied the old record with 9 picks 1st 3 rounds. Bama had 4 four 1st round picks in 2011, 2012, 2017, and this week.

The preseason polls I've seen all have:
1. Clempson
2. Ohio St
3/4. Bama'
And mostly have:
4. LSU
5. UGA

LSU by far has the biggest reloading job to do, replacing 14 starters, a slew of All Americans, including the Heisman winner and #1 pick.

True. Interesting to think that the Number 1 overall pick had to transfer from Ohio State because he wasn't going to start there.

Made it all but unwatchable.

Yeah, the NFL did really well competing against all the other live sports on TV Thur, Fri, and Sat.
