What Katie Ledecky did to the entire field in the 1500 free was cray-cray.

Crouser with an insane world record in the event.

I'd always thought it was normal for people with dual citizenship (or at least a familial tie to another country) to represent another country in cases where they had no chance of making Team USA. I never thought I'd see a reigning world record holder pull that. That arrogant Armand Duplantis has done just that, though, and it looks like he'll be the only pole vaulter representing Sweden. He could easily have been the #1 guy representing Team USA, though. I wonder why he did that....

Erriyon Knighton, a 17-year-old at Hillsborough High School, came in third place overnight in the men’s 200-meter trials with a time of 19.84, earning a spot on the team ahead of the Tokyo Olympics. He finished behind Noah Lyles – who won in 19.74 seconds, the best time in the world this season – and Kenny Bednarek. The trio were the final Americans to earn spots in the Olympics across 28 sports.

The Erriyon kid is continuing to shatter Usain Bolt's previous U-18 record. I think this is the 4th time he's run faster than Bolt's previous best U-18 time of 20.30. That's impressive right there. This kid should be a household name for the next decade.

Yes, mostly (Phelps and Ledecky). Also in wrestling (men's and women's) and bball (men's and women's).

I think yeah and 1/2 of those were part of relays or teams. Really it was Phelps and Ledecky getting 5 individual and 4 relays. Another swimmer was on the same relay as Phelps so shared that medal. Durant and Anthony were on the Mens BBall team so each got a gold, 1 player on the women's bball team, Centrowitz won the 1500, and 2 wrestlers won gold from MD.
So really, 8 individual golds by 5 individuals and 6 golds through relay/teams by 6 individuals (counting Durant/Anthony as 1 and the shared relay as one)
And US got 46 golds.

Not if you're breaking out Maryland. It was for fun.

Haha. MD had 2 of the 12 guys on the men's bball team and you took away not 1 (or 1/6) but 2 gold medals from the US for that.

Yeah, the US should be at 32, but that's really not the point.
And for MD, the total count was actually 18 people, 16 Gold

Neither Phelps nor Ledecky were based out of Maryland in 2016. Probably have dual-state citizenship, so would depend on their allegiance in such a hypothetical.

Did they have Maryland driver's licenses? That would be a requirement to be a Marylander under the BDK rules of local identity.

True, for the 2016 Olympics he was living in Arizona. He was born, grew up, swam, and won most of his medals while living in Maryland, but sure, he's an Arizonan. Does he still live there now?

Well, 5 years to be about correct. He moved there when his coach moved there prior to the last, and his last, Olympics.
