Wild GM Doug Risebrough has been fired by owner Craig Leipold, in a surprise decision annouced by the team today.

The Wild, in an annoucement released to the media just after noon, said Risebrough's contract will not be renewed "beyond the 2008-2009 season."

Thank God... a complete joke that one... top 5 in the league in revenues... fans on par with Montreal/Toronto/Detroit... and yet the joker demanded "building a team like the Twins" in other words... cut em loose when we have to actually pay em.

Is this the same owner that used to own the Predators?

yeah... thing is, he really doesn't have any leverage to do anything vis-a-vis leaving us without hockey again... his beef with Nashville was the city didn't support a successful team... 13,000 average attendance for a team that was near the top of the table each year... however in MN they've sold out every game in franchise history despite only 3 playoff appearances in 10 years... and the franchise is very profitable... so he won't be able to pull that schtick here.

if he's willing to invest in top talent... this could be premier franchise in the NHL for 20 years or more... but having the leagues best arena, and top 5 fans really doesn't hold up if you don't win.
