Hopefully Pulisic isn't too injured as he didn't come back on after halftime. Good game by the US, gave a few chances up there at the end, but nothing too dangerous. Good World Cup for this group and now they get a shot at a good, but beatable, Dutch team.
Don't count your chickens before they hatch quite sure The Netherlands will not bow down to Uncle Sam.

All I said was that the US could win, it's not an impossible hill to climb. Doesn't sound like counting chicken eggs to me. :coffee:

Tunisia 1 - 0 over France
Australia 1 - 0 over Denmark
Argentina 2 - 0 over Poland
Mexico - 2 - 1 over Saudi Arabia

France, Australia, Argentina and Poland advance.

Saudi Arabia scored in extra time to pull within 1 of Mexico. Without that goal, Mexico would have have failed to advance due to receiving more cards than Poland.

And Mexico is out. Beat Saudi Arabia 2-1 but Poland go through on goal differential after they lose 0-2 to Argentina, who finishes top of the group despite that disastrous loss to Saudi Arabia to start the group play.

Argentina plays Australia, with the winner playing the winner of Netherlands/USA. France plays Poland, with winner taking on the winner of England/Senegal. Half the remaining field known. First time no Mexico in the Round of 16 since 1990.

The card thing would've been silly, again something soccer should change. Not every ref is the same. First guy the US had was card-happy. Next two refs were actually very limited with cards (especially the guy in the England game).

I agree but found it funny. I haven't watched much of this WC but Mexico is typically a very physical team so it would have been rich if they missed advancing due to cards received.

The card would have been silly, except it was Mexico, so it would have been great and poetic justice! After Saudi Arabia scored, I was hoping Mexico would get one back before the game ended, so they'd go home on fair play points.

USA is the lone CONCACAF team left, not a great showing by the confederation in this World Cup. Canada vastly underperformed, Costa Rica somehow won a game and still ended up -8 in goal differential, and Mexico couldn't even qualify past a sleepy and unremarkable Poland team. Thank goodness the next World Cup has so many more teams so that we can watch more of this in the group stages.

The Cup to date has been strange. I don't know if it's the environment or the time of the year but the traditional powers seem to be struggling more than usual.

Agreed. Denmark, the Euro champ, didn't advance. Also seemed like quite a few traditional Euro powers skirted by on the slightest of margins.
