2022 IFAF Women's World Championship

The schedule for the 2022 IFAF Women's World Championship to be held in Vantaa, FIN, has been announced. No word on TV or livestreaming. (Livestreaming was big during the first few tournaments.)

First Round

The 3-6 game is a repeat of the 2017 Bronze Medal Game. All Gold Medal Games so far (2010, 2013, and 2017) have featured USA vs. Canada. The Team USA Head Coach is Callie Brownson, currently the Chief of Staff and Assistant Wide Receivers Coach of the Cleveland Browns. Brownson is a retired safety, running back, and slot receiver with eight years semi-pro experience with the D.C. Divas of the Women's Football Alliance, and is a two-time World Championship Gold Medalist with Team USA (Finland 2013, Canada 2017). The rest of the coaching staff consists of OC/QBs Coach Jim Farrell (HC, Buffalo Grove (IL) HS), DC/LBers Coach Stephanie Balochko (DC, Pittsburgh Passion), Special Teams Coordinator/DBs Coach Jeff Grybash (Buffalo Grove (IL) HS), WRs Coach Fabien Bownes (WR, Chicago Bears 1995, 1997-1998, Seattle Seahawks 1999-2001), RBs Coach Odessa Jenkins (Founder/CEO, WNFC; World Champion 2017), OL Coach Becky Worsham (OL, D.C. Divas 2008-2018), DL Coach John Johnson (HC, Boston Renegades, 2018-2022 WFA Champions).

The MEX-GB game was declared a forfeit due to a delay in Team Mexico's flight to Finland. Canada whomped Australia. Finland trounced Sweden. USA got revenge for the touchdown they gave up to Germany in 2013.

I think this is the closest game Team USA has ever played internationally. And Canada lost to Great Britain. Shockers! First non-USA-CAN Gold Medal Game ever. Wow....

As expected, Team USA wins Gold. But whodathunk Canada would finish out of the medals?!? Wow. No running game and no punter will do that to you. But as for USA vs. GB: Time of Possession was almost equal. But USA did much more with the ball while they had it: 174 net rushing yards and 222 net passing yards. GB had less than 100 of each. And USA did that without getting any turnovers; in fact, GB claimed one of two USA fumbles. I think the key stat, though, was third down conversions: USA converted 9 of 14, while GB only got 1 of 9.
