I had been planning to go to this World Cup for a while but it looks like those plans may not come to fruition.

Same here. We have friends that live there saving on the cost of rooms. But we were also planning on doing the Canal (Barge) rentals next summer sometime also in Ireland so not sure how that will pan out. Can't do both.

North Korea just qualified. This is going to be most interesting.
So far, the teams that have qualified are Australia, South Korea, Japan and North Korea out of Asia, the Netherlands out of Europe and South Africa as the host.
Bahrain and Saudi Arabia will play a two-leg playoffs to determine the 5th place team out of Asia. The winner plays Oceania Champion New Zealand for the final Asia/Oceania bid.

That's a hell of a tough choice. Ireland's a beautiful country, and the World Cup is...well, the World Cup.

European World Cup teams to be seeded
Playoff berth: (4 comes out of group)
France
Russia
Portugal
Greece
Ireland
Bosnia
Ukraine
Slovenia
The eight teams will be seeded according to the Fifa rankings, the governing body's president Sepp Blatter said on Tuesday.
There will also be a separate draw to determine which teams play the second legs at home, Blatter told a news conference after a Fifa executive committee meeting in Rio de Janeiro.
"We have decided on seeding the teams into two groups of four, taking the Fifa world rankings into account, with the top four in one pot and the others in another pot," Blatter said.

Croatia really had the worst deal. For the UEFA playoff the top 4 teams will be pooled to play against the bottom four. The new ranking comes out tomorrow, but the projections have.
10. France
11. Portugal
13. Russia
20. Greece
the bottom 4
24. Ukraine
27. Ireland
40. Bosnia
49. Slovenia (funny too that Slovakia won the group and is projected 50)
I personally would like to see Greece move along. I think Greece had a good run in the UEFA Euro champ in 2004 and it would be nice to seem them rebound after that run (even though it was more luck than anything).
Also, I have a lot of doubt in France (unless they get Ireland) because they just have not been playing well this past year.

I'm sad Croatia is out. Their fans are the most insane group of the bunch. They have fun no matter the outcome. Injuries killed them.

Got to watch part of it while I was getting my haircut yesterday. Can't blame Henry for trying though, refs should have picked up on that. Poorly officiated game on the whole, Irish shouldn't blame France for cheating, Irish should blame the Refs for not seeing what was a blatant hand ball. I heard someone down here say "They must have used refs from the SEC to call that game."
