Peavy can veto trade
The agent for San Diego Padres pitcher Jake Peavy expressed doubt Thursday that his client is ready to sign off on a proposed trade to the Chicago White Sox.
Agent Barry Axelrod told ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick that Peavy has a "strong preference'' to stay in the National League. That preference, along with Peavy's fondness for his new home in Southern California, could be impediments to a proposed deal that would send the pitcher to Chicago.
ESPN's Peter Gammons reported that according to sources, the White Sox would send the Padres four players to complete a deal for Peavy.
Sources told Gammons that White Sox shortstop prospect Gordon Beckham is not among the players in the deal. Beckham was the eighth overall pick in last year's amateur draft.
ESPNChicago.com's Bruce Levine reported that White Sox players in the deal include left-handed pitcher Clayton Richard and left-hander Aaron Poreda, a former No. 1 draft pick.

The AL sucks. I don't believe that Peavy will allow this trade to go through. I ALSO can't believe that the SD powers that be even THOUGHT about dumping the one remaining Padre sacred cow (the other is somehow in Milwaukee).

Yeah...let's see: Go from a team that's 18-22, allowing me to spend 1/2 the year in San Diego, to a team that's 17-22 but I'm forced to spend half the year in the shitty part of Chicago....go to a league where ALL my numbers will get worse.....I think I'd pass too.

I'm not suprised that Peavy vetoed the trade. The White Sox were the only team that aggressively pursued him, but other teams may become interested as time goes by.
From what I've heard on ESPN, Peavy likes to hit and would prefer to stay in the NL.
Also, as AZ said above, I'd rather play for a losing team in San Diego than a losing team in Chicago.

Rumor in Chicago is that he wants to play for the Cubs.

That makes sense, the Cubs are in the NL and they are closer to winning as World Series than the White Sox are right now.
