Operation Worst Record In Baseball 2010

So I got my new issue of Sports Illustrated today and the cover story is about 16-year old Las Vegas High catcher Bryce Harper.

Harper currently will be eligible for the MLB draft in 2011, though he and his family are looking over some options that could make him eligible in 2010, one option would be to get his GED this summer and enroll in Junior College this fall.

What is all the fuss? Harper very well could end up as the greatest baseball player ever... better then Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Ted William....

Already he has hit a 570 foot home run in Nevada and in January hit the longest home run in Tropicana Field history, a 502 foot shot that would have went around 600 if not for a wall getting in the way.

Harper a catcher has amazing speed as well, already scoring six times this season on wild pitches..... from second base.

I will scan the article this afternoon and post the images.

And for you Yankee fans here's a quote that you can salivate over while you dream of a free agent Harper signing with New York as soon as the 2016 off season if he manages to get draft eligible next year and make it to the majors right away.

When asked about his goals as a ballplayer, Bryce replies with certainty.

"Be in the Hall of Fame, definitely. Play in the pinstripes. Be considered the greatest baseball player who ever lived. I can't wait."

Just as likely...especially with family trying to push him along.

all hit with a metal bat.

His swing is just calling out for a major league curveball that drops off the table.

Making him quit school for this is craziness. Putting all his eggs in one basket. His family should be providing a normal life, not building him up for a enormous failure.

I can't get excited about HS baseball players. So many of these kids struggle when they hot college or A ball, that's why Springsteen has that song called "Glory Days".

You are entering dangerous ground by using that name for Chuck Norris. He might kill you so bad in a dream tomorrow night that you will not wake up.

Well, let's not start sucking each other's dicks quite yet.
Let's see what he does with a wood bat against minor league pitching first.

Strasburg and Harper - not a bad little battery the Nat's will have to play with
Future HOF Pudge can provide some extremely valuable advice to the youngin' (Rule 1 - Lose that 'warpaint' from your face. You look like an ass.) if he gets called up to the bigs in the next year or two
With Zimmerman, Willingham, Dunn...and decent rookie SS in Desmond and resurgent 2B in Guzman...a very decent setup/closer pair with Clippard and Capps...a very cohesive team in general with the desire to win...things are looking up for the Nat's in the years to come.

dont think Wash is going to use him as a Catcher. They had him announced at the draft as an OF. Prolly expect him to spend 2010-11 in the minors working in the OF and then have a shot at the team in 2012 when he's... 19

But ya Washington is definately doing things right. Not tossing money on free agency to become relevant over night.
