Re: 2009 U. S. Open
The first round of the U.S. Open started Thursday. The end is not yet in sight.
Making greens look like swimming pools and creating streams on many fairways, a daylong deluge overwhelmed an already-waterlogged Bethpage Black and postponed most of the opening round until Friday.
Rain started falling moments before play began at 7 a.m., prompted a suspension at 10:16 a.m., and the United States Golf Association gave up hope for the day just before 2 p.m.
No one completed more than 11 holes, and half the 156-man field didn’t even get started.
“Where’s my canoe,” mused Ian Poulter on his Twitter feed.
Oh, and while Friday’s forecast isn’t as bad, more rain is possible. And Saturday is expected to be much like what greeted players Thursday.

It's plenty wet here in the mid-Atlantic - has been all spring. They'll be playing the Open well into next week (or can they shorten to 54 holes? didn't think they could for the Open)...

Getting 72 holes in this weekend will be tough. If there is a tie after 72 holes, I believe the Open Playoff is a full 18 holes.

Re: 2009 U. S. Open
It is miserable in the NYC area today. Has been for over a week now.
It was absolutely pouring when I left for work this morning at 7am and when I left a meeting at 6pm tonight it looked exactly the same.
I'm hoping I don't get welcomed home by water in my newly finished basement.
The course has got to be completely saturated.

Re: 2009 U. S. Open
Does anyone know what the schedule is for round two?
I thought I read somewhere that the players that actually played on Thursday wouldn't start their second rounds until Saturday morning, but then on the telecast today, the announcers were talking about people doing their second rounds this evening.
It kind of sucks for the people who played Thursday, given they had crappy conditions that led to bad scores, while the players going today had good scoring conditions. Especially if someone played the majority of their first round Thursday, but then doesn't get their second round until Sat. morning, and the weather again turns crappy for the morning.

Players will play until dark today and tomorrow in hope of making up the lost round/day so Sunday will just be the final round and they won't have to play Monday.

Re: 2009 U. S. Open
It is a reverse of the tee times of the first day. Same pairings.
FYI...Nick is at -2 after 14 holes on round 2. 5 under for his second round so far, 6th over all

His second round score is tied for the best by an amateur ever. Was just about to tee off when it was called again tonight. His dad said that he is very loose and so far is handling the pressure well. The big test will come now that the galleries will be bigger.dbackjon wrote:Nick had a great second round. Who knew golf was such a "sexual" sport? These are some quotes I've heard just on this a.m.'s broadcast:
"kind of a hooker"
"we've seen some skanky shots"
"he'll get excited when he finds out it's six inches"
"I think he might have gotten lucky!"
