This has been reported by every news carrier in Eastern Iowa this morning.
Ed Thomas, coach of Applington-Parkersburg, was shot multiple times, including point blank in the head this morning about 8:30 in the weight room. Thomas is one of the all time winningest coaches in the state, and has produced 5 NFL players from one of the smallest schools in the state. He wasn't liked by some, but to think someone would do this is...just...wow... Thomas, who lost his house in the Parkersburg tornado last year, that destroyed over 1/3 of Parkersburg, has done nothing but help the town rebuild and is loved by almost everyone, except those who had to play or coach against him.
As of 9:05 the police had a suspect, described as "young" in custody, and Ed was still alive.
I'm linking KWWL out of Waterloo, who is going to update their page with info as it comes in.

That sucks. This coach sounds familiar as I believe ESPN did a story about him after the Tornado. It spoke about how he had great success despite drawing from such a small population, and of the great things he did for the community.
Update found the ESPN Story.
