Check out some of the Summer of Soccer nitty-gritty: A glamorous 51-day period includes 48 MLS matches, 15 matches in the 2009 SuperLiga tournament (which features top MLS and Mexican teams), 25 CONCACAF Gold Cup matches, two Mexican national team friendlies as El Tri makes its annual summer swing through the States, two CONCACAF Champions League matches and eight international exhibitions featuring global heavyweights.

Attendance is projected to approach 2 million for the whole shebang. Approximately 12,000 accredited journalists will chronicle the festivities in dispatches, pictures and posts distributed worldwide.

In addition to Barcelona, Real Madrid and Everton, an impressive list of global biggies headed our way includes current Italian rivals AC Milan and Inter Milan, English heavyweight Chelsea FC and Mexican powers Chivas de Guadalajara and Club America. Chelsea and Club America will meet in the Dallas Cowboys' palatial new home on July 26. American football will usually be featured inside the $1 billion behemoth, but history will record "soccer" as the first athletic event there. A week before Chelsea and Club America meet, two Gold Cup quarterfinals will mark the suburban Dallas venue's sporting debut.

I haven't seen a pro soccer game in person since I saw Pele and the Cosmos play against the Connecticut Bicentennials at the Yale Bowl back in 1977.

I'm due.

My last big-time soccer game was Cameroon vs Sweden at the Rose Bowl during the 1994 World Cup.

I will be going to the Chelsea - Club America match next month at Cowboy Stadium.

I plan on going to at least one Houston Dynamo match.

Considering going to some Gold Cup games here in Houston.

We already have tickets for the Sounders Chelsea and Barca games. We are also thinking about heading down to the Rose bowl for the Galaxy Barca game.
We also have tickets to the MLS All Star game at Rio Tinto in SLC.

I'll probably make it to one DC United games before I leave and if I wasn't going to be in Florida I would consider the Gold Cup US-Honduras game, although I'm not a fan of broken beer bottles and bags of piss thrown at me.
