We call it soccer down here...dbackjon wrote:They play football in Canada?
We get CFL games here every week. If the nfl game was half as interesting and as fast as the CFL game I would actually watch it.Purple For Life wrote:CANADIAN FOOTBALL!!!!!!

In SH's mind there is.Ursus A. Horribilis wrote:Charles Roberts is a fantastic back. Don't understand the male part either as there isn't a female alive that could run better than even maybe 10% of the high school RB's but whatever. The CFL game is very fun to watch and I agree with PG it is more interesting than the NFL despite the drop off in talent.
A friend of mine that tends at Red's and I were talking to Fritz Neighbor one night about a year ago and someone was going on about a girls state track record and how athletic the gal was. My friend made a boast that he could go out without any training and beat the record. I can't remember if Fritz made the bet with him or another friend did but it got to the point that he would attempt 7 events with no training and they would set it up with official timers and measurements and so forth and Fritz would oversee it. The guy went out that Saturday without any training other than beer drinking and burgers and topped 5 or the 7 state records in a couple of hours in the afternoon. He missed the other two state records just barely.Grizalltheway wrote:In SH's mind there is.Ursus A. Horribilis wrote:Charles Roberts is a fantastic back. I think the one area where this trend doesn't hold true is distance running. I was a pretty decent runner in my day (approx 5 minute mile, sub-18 3 mile) but there were always a few gals who would end up with better times than me at meets. Hell, my sister ran the Missoula marathon in under 4 hours today, and there's no way in hell I could even think about running that far at this point in my life.Ursus A. He was not a track star and didn't even participate in track in high school.
You're right there. He didn't do any distance stuff but I thought it was funny that he beat the record in one of the short distance and barely missed the other one.Grizalltheway wrote:I think the one area where this trend doesn't hold true is distance running. The Lady Griz are perenial Big Sky Champs and I always get a kick out of the fans that think they could compete with the boys because they have a great outside shot and so forth. An old room mate was dating one of the Lady Griz players and he would always go down and shoot around with her and so forth. She got the other starting four Lady Griz together and a couple of other chicks and he put four buddies together and they played a game one Saturday afternoon and the Ladies got the fuck kicked out of them. I don't have a thing against women's athletics as I love to watch it for the prurient interests but to say that it holds a candle to male sports (in most cases) is ludicrous.JMU DJ wrote:Ursus A. This book... we'll call it the bathroom book... that I'm reading a few pages at a time has a chapter on the disparity between male and female athletes, among all sports. The women's national soccer team (yeah, the team with Mia Hamm and that chick who ripped her jersey off in the world cup) practices with and sometimes gets beat by the California U-15 male team. The bottom ranked male tennis player crushed one of the top ranked female players. Even in Pool, Darts and other games that don't require athleticism... the males (even the bottom ranked ones) dominate the females. Not saying these women aren't skilled athletes and at the top of their game... tis just the way the cookie crumbles.
