Home Run Derby 2009

If anyone still cares about this event, who you got? I think it will be one of the 1st baseman from the NL... but I think Pujols will pull it out in front of the home crowd in his home stadium. I got two dogs in this race though, past winner Ryan Howard and first time All Star Brandon Inge. Inge grew up and played ball in my hometown, my sister used to hang out with him and their group of friends in high school. Been watching this guy play for the past few years, and he's definitely an all star MLB talent (at 3rd base).

I'm going with Mauer. In batting practice Mauer hits them long and often, and he's being coached by last years champ Justin Morneau.

It would have been a better poll if you would have asked how many commercials breaks would be taken or how many hours it would be on.

I am going with Mauer. He has the purest swing in the majors, and won't change it to hit them out like the others. Fatigue players a factor as the Twins make it back to back titles

I went with Inge. I don't think he'll win, but I like the Tigers.

@ Twinkies homers. The dude has 15 HRs, I'm not sure why he was even invited, let alone why he should be the favorite.

Mauer missed the first month of the season... 15 HR is respectable in the amount of time he's put in this year.
Event will probably last 2-3 hours... when it should only last an hour max.

And you actually ROOT for Inge?

I stand corrected.

No Mark Reynolds make the competition worthless

Under rated player... plays in Arizona = no one cares unless your name is Dan Haren... don't think there's anyone on the all star team this year that shouldn't be there (no sentimental votes like Ripken, Griffey, Chipper, etc or outrageous players making it because they are on the Sawx or Yanks).

But not everyone in the HR Derby is in the All-Star game, correct?

Nah they all are... Inge, Cruz and Pena were late selection (Inge fan, Pena by his coach).
EDIT: I think sometimes (I may be wrong) the players in the home run derby aren't on the roster

Reynolds leads all 3B in HR - 3 more than Inge. Tied for 2nd overall in MLB.

Stand corrected - late addition. But, he was invited to the HR derby before being named as replacement...

Exactly why he's underrated... he leads the team in most hitting stats to I believe and put up similar numbers last year.

he was added to the All Star roster a few days ago. The AL HR participants werent announced until yesterday (Aside from Mauer who was announced a couple days ago)

So who watched it last night. I didn't. Figured it would be on long enough for me to catch the final batter or two when I woke up this morning.
How long was it?
4 hours?

It was on til 11 EST... I gave up when it took one hour for the first two batters to hit. Changed it back around 1030 EST and it was still going on
