MANCHESTER – The Manchester Wolves have announced that the arenafootball2 franchise will be suspending operations pending further developments with the league.
The Arena Football League, parent organization and partial owner of the af2, took a one-year hiatus and did not play indoor football this past spring. The league then announced last month that it was shutting down indefinitely.
The af2 continued its season as normal this year, with Spokane winning the Arena Cup last month. Leading up to the championship, representatives from the Wolves and owners around the af2 met to discuss the future of the af2, but nothing has been resolved.
"As we saw, the AFL shut down operations and now there is a question of what is going to happen with the af2,” said Wolves general manager Stephanie Bike, who is also the daughter of Wolves managing partner Steve Schubert. "In the interest of being proactive, we decided that we wanted to take a step in a positive direction and say this is what our organization is doing right now and this is why we're doing it."
A commitment date is looming with the af2, prompting the Wolves to make their decision now.
