Will Arrest Lead To Suspension For Merriman?

Could be some bad news for the San Diego Chargers.
Shawne Merriman was arrested last night for choking and restraining his girlfriend. The commish has little tolerance for players getting in trouble with the law and a suspension could come at some point which isn't something that Chargers really need.

His girlfriend is Tila Tequila. Probably informed merriman of the STD she gave him.
Can't change your stance on the conduct policy now. Pending charges/coviction, he will be suspended.

nothing new there.
oh wait, Chargers choking OTHER people. That's something new.
I can't stand Tila Tequila. But regardless of that, violence is not the answer (especially not violence against women by an NFL football player.)

Statement from Merrieman:
On September 6, 2009, the San Diego Sheriffs Department responded to a citizens complaint that was initiated by Tila Nguyen (aka Tila Tequila). I was taken into custody based upon that complaint. At the time, I was concerned about her welfare given the intoxicated state she appeared to be in and I encouraged her to stay until safe transportation could be provided. We would all do our best to help a friend if we considered their actions to be detrimental to their personal safety. I in no way caused any harm to Ms Nguyen, however, paramedics were called and she was examined but no injuries were reported. She was released and has since returned to Los Angeles, California. There have been no charges filed against me. I want to thank the San Diego Sheriffs Department for their professionalism. I will continue to cooperate fully with the Department and I look forward to clearing my name regarding these false allegations. I want to put this behind me so I can continue to focus on a successful season for the San Diego Chargers.

I had the exact same thing happen to a friend of mine, he was trying to stop his girlfriend from drinking and driving, she got enraged and tried to beat him up. She hit him in the face, trashed his apartment, etc and then left. He never laid a finger on her. She got pulled over a block away and she cried "assualt" so my friend was arrested. After failing the field sobriety test and seeing that my friend was the one with injuries, not her, she was arrested.

As much as I would love to hate on a former Twerp, he was doing the right thing.
