NL Rookie of the Year

Post by SunCoastBlueHen »

Who's most deserving?

I'm pulling for Chris Coghlan of the Florida Marlins.

.311 BA 74 Runs and 42 RBI from the leadoff spot in less than a full season.

Chris is the best friend of a guy's son who I work with (a local kid). He says the kid practically lived at his house in HS. With that, I'm really rooting for the guy. His numbers seem deserving...

What say you?

Hanson and Happ have very similar numbers - I couldn't disagree with either one as ROTY in the NL.

That's what I'm thinking, Hanson and Beckham.... though Happ and Hanson are virtually identical stat wise.

This guy is sure to get some votes.

20 HR is less then 300 AB and batting over .300

In the AL if you guys were voters would you give Nick Adenhart the last spot on you ROY ballot?

Happ/Hanson

10/10 W
4/4 L
2.77/2.85 ERA
32/19 G
20/19 GS
3/0 CG
2/0 SHO
152.2/113.2 IP
105/100 SO
52/43 BB
.234/.230 AVG
1.19/1.22 WHIP

I'm not sure how time factors into this at all, but these stats are almost identical and, if anything, favor Happ. It can't hurt that Happ is pitching for a division winner, either. :thumb:

Yes he did, but that has little meaning when doing a side by side comparison of the two.

My money is on Happ given all these statistics.

not really... by leaving that out your stats suggest he pitched more innings per start then Hanson by a wide margin and thats misleading..

OK - I suppose I'll concede that one (it wasn't omitted to try to skew anything). I edited the original post to include games.

Wow, a 28 year old rookie who bummed around the minors for the better part of a decade. 20 dingers in 70 some games is very impressive! Something must have gotten into that guy and I think a piss test may be warranted to figure out what. :D

if 10 year veterans of japanese baseball can win it, then a 28 year old career minor leaguer can too...

Apples and oranges.

A Japanese player already reached the pinnacle of the baseball world in their country and then only the best of their "major leagues" get offered contracts here in the States. I also assume you are referring to Ichiro, and he was one of the first to set the standard for Japenese players in this country. A trailblazer, if you will. A guy who spent 10 years in the minors here in the U.S. was, for years, deemed to be not good enough. Not many players spend that many years in the minors and then find great success in the majors.
