But but but...
Obama went and gave a speech and everything...
The world loves Obama!
Maybe it was Michelle - maybe she needed to flash more than just her arms...

The murder capital of the USA was not chosen? Shocking! I guess a city where corruption and hate flow freely is not what the committee is looking for.

Good! I hope Rio gets it, they deserve it and they will have the infrastructure because of 2014 world cup. Surprised they went out in the first round though.

My response was humor, i'm not surprised that Chicago wasn't chosen.

No neither am I. I just don't think crime was the reason is all. If it were, you'd have to include Rio

hell yeah. My nephew has a good chance at going in 2016 (2012 too, but 2016 will be his peak year) and I don't want to go to Chicago. I want to go to Rio.

I hear Chicago sucks...If O'hare is any indication of the city, I would agree. That's one of the worst airports I have ever been in.

BTW - how did this become an indictment of Obama?

Check out Drudgereport.com

I find that interesting.

While I hoped Chicago would be selected (increases my chances to attend), I am not surprised Rio is a finalist, since no South American country has ever hosted the summer Olympics.

You didn't like all the neon lights while you were walking between terminals or having to go down on the tarmac to catch a bus to your plane? Weird.

Well on ESPN now a Mr. Holm is saying Obama hurt Chicago's bid. I believe the BBC article. Obama did nothing to help, but Chicago's bid sucked.

It is interesting to hear Mr. Holm talk about him coming in like a business deal and leaving before the voting hurt. It was also interesting to note on gamingbids that the nonstop talking about themselves in their presentation hurt. When Rio and its promo focused on all the countries uniting and coming to Rio.

My understanding was that Richmond had pretty rates, but the smaller population kept them out of the running for total killings. A quick search shows that Baltimore was the murder capital in 08, but that is now Detroit's title.

We treasonous people aren't cheering against America, just against Obama. His ego's wildly out of control - he thinks his very appearance is enough to make everything better - and this is just the sort of thing to bring him back down to earth. It's mildly humorous here, but a complete disaster when he got the rare opportunity to chair a UN Security Council session:
...
On Sept. 24, Obama ostentatiously presided over the Security Council. With 14 heads of state (or government) at the table, with an American president at the chair for the first time ever, with every news camera in the world trained on the meeting, it would garner unprecedented worldwide attention.

Unknown to the world, Obama had in his pocket explosive revelations about an illegal uranium enrichment facility that the Iranians had been hiding near Qom. The French and the British were urging him to use this most dramatic of settings to stun the world with the revelation and to call for immediate action.

Obama refused. Not only did he say nothing about it, but, reports the Wall Street Journal (citing Le Monde), Sarkozy was forced to scrap the Qom section of his speech. Obama held the news until a day later -- in Pittsburgh. I've got nothing against Pittsburgh (site of the G-20 summit), but a stacked-with-world-leaders Security Council chamber it is not.

Why forgo the opportunity? Because Obama wanted the Security Council meeting to be about his own dream of a nuclear-free world. The president, reports the New York Times citing "White House officials," did not want to "dilute" his disarmament resolution "by diverting to Iran."

Diversion? It's the most serious security issue in the world. A diversion from what? From a worthless U.N. disarmament resolution?

Yes. And from Obama's star turn as planetary visionary: "The administration told the French," reports the Wall Street Journal, "that it didn't want to 'spoil the image of success' for Mr. Obama's debut at the U.N."

Image? Success? Sarkozy could hardly contain himself. At the council table, with Obama at the chair, he reminded Obama that "we live in a real world, not a virtual world."

He explained: "President Obama has even said, 'I dream of a world without [nuclear weapons].' Yet before our very eyes, two countries are currently doing the exact opposite."

Sarkozy's unspoken words? "And yet, sacré bleu, he's sitting on Qom!"

I was rooting against because Boston/New England bid is one of the US leaders and 2020 has to almost be a guarantee unless they go to Africa.
