I never said Obama wasn't born in the US.
I don't care and, at this point, it does not matter.
The point I am making is that lies have different degrees of importance, according to law.

Academic elites are not much different than elite athletes. Football players are "offered full scholarships" without ever applying to a certain school. The same thing holds true for elite students as well. A friend of ours daughter met with several Ivy League school officials and every one offered her full academic scholarships before she applied to any of them.
Carson's account of what happened is consistent with the experiences of many others.
It sounds odd. There isn't a tuition at West Point. So what is this "full scholarship"? Why say something like that? One would assume the top ROTC kid in Detroit would know that.

The reason I brought those up is Carson's assertion that the mainstream media didn't seem to be as concerned about Obama not exactly being accurate about his life story as they are about him doing it.

Yet another incorrect assertion by the good doctor. :coffee:

If someone is going to a University and their room and board are fully paid for + additional stipend, if they aren't on a scholarship, then what are they on?

Nice conflation, you dumb fuck.

Unlike other schools, our military academies require you pay them back with several years of military service after graduation- a huge fee and hardly a full ride.

Carson knows this. He intentionally used the term to make himself look better in the eyes of the idiots like you and Ahbaldy Chalabi who buy his books.

Come on, D. At the time he wrote his autobiography in the early 1990s, Carson had been No. 3 in his high school class and had graduated from Yale and Johns Hopkins Medical School. He was a professor at Johns Hopkins Medical School, a world-famous neurosurgeon, and the head of Pediatric Surgery at Johns Hopkins University Hospital.

But he need to tell a fib about being offered a scholarship at West Point to make himself look good?

That makes no sense. The event described in his book probably happened the way he described it. Westmoreland and the others told him that they could get him a free ride to West Point. For all the attention this thing has gotten, it bears noting that this was only a few sentences in his book, and he was recounting something that happened all in one night (which is evident when you read in this account in context).

Just because you don't like Carson, or don't think he should be president, doesn't mean you have to think he's a liar. The whole attack on Carson is pretty amazing. Reporters are going through his book, story by story, and then reporting that they can't find anyone who can corroborate Carson's stories about events over happened 50 years ago. So they suggest he might by lying. Really?

It's amusing to see the press try to label Carson a liar, when there is a genuine notorious liar running, and the press does not investigate her.

Thanks for the usual academic and professional merit list, but that hardly precludes someone from being a narcissist and egomaniac, which Carson undoubtedly is. MOF, people who fit that profile are far more inclined to be. So, did he have to lie or exaggerate? Hell yes, its part of who he is.

:coffee:
When discussing college scholarships, it's always money based on merit or need. You don't need money to study at West Point because it's subsidized by the taxpayer. Everything a cadet needs is provided by the taxpayer. They don't have to worry about covering the cost of books or food or uniforms.
:coffee: :coffee:

It was a poor choice of words, but there's nothing to pay for.
Those who are selected to attend USMA receive a college education that is unparalleled in the world with tuition, room and board, and expenses fully paid

Westmoreland, a grad, would know that as well. So why even use the word? It's just odd.

Because that was also a lie?

General Westmoreland was in Washington, DC and nowhere near Detroit that weekend.
In his autobiography, which was the basis of a movie about Carson’s life, Carson wrote that the dinner with Westmoreland took place after he “marched at the head of the Memorial Day parade.”

“I felt so proud, my chest bursting with ribbons and braids of every kind,” said Carson, who was a top ROTC cadet at Detroit’s former Southwestern High School.

Westmoreland’s Memorial Day schedule on May 30, 1969, indicates he was in Washington. The schedule says Westmoreland had a morning meeting with national security adviser Henry Kissinger, laid a wreath at an 11 a.m. memorial service in Arlington National Cemetery and had a 5 p.m. “boat ride on the Potomac.”

The Detroit News on Friday reviewed Westmoreland’s schedule for the dates in question among his official papers housed at the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center in Carlisle, Pa.

The Army records and Detroit News archival records show Westmoreland was in Detroit on Feb. 18, 1969, for a dinner honoring a Vietnam War veteran. The banquet was for Congressional Medal of Honor winner Dwight Johnson, a Detroit African-American who risked his life “beyond the call of duty,” according to a website about black participation in the Vietnam War.
