Glad to see Keeler get yet another FCS playoff victory. :thumb:
sorry for the dramatics, not a miracle but a good win.
?

Does Sam Houston now have more playoff wins that Mcneese does now?

Yes Sam Houston State already had more playoff wins historically than McNeese going in. McNeese still has substantial leads in playoff appearances, head to head record, and Southland championships. But the winning in the playoffs thing is a real issue as they are now working on a run during which they have made playoff appearances in 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2013, and 2015 without winning any playoff games in any of those years except for 2002 when they went to the national title game. And even then they had three close playoff wins then lost the championship game to a team they beat 38-13 during the regular season. They've done things like beat a really good Appalachian State team on the road in 2009 during the regular season then get blown out at home by a not so great New Hampshire team in the first round of that season's playoffs.

Tonight's loss was PARTICULARLY disappointing. Had McNeese taken the lead late Sam Houston State would've had plenty of time to try to retake it. But having a wide receiver make a big play like that to get them to first and goal inside the one so that it's virtually certain to be a touchdown coming up and have the whole scenario changed because somebody got called for a false start penalty was REALLY excruciating. Then after that Sams runs the ball down to around the one again and its called back for holding. The holding wasn't the bad one though. The false start was the one that really hurt. That completely changed the complexion of the situation.

The sad thing is that they were going to get Colgate in the quarterfinals if they won. I know Colgate's had two upsets but when I was watching those two teams play today I was thinking neither one looked very good. Now Sam Houston State gets that matchup so you can pretty much count on them being in the semifinals again.

BTW I think the adjustment Sam Houston State made after having played McNeese once before was to go to a more pass oriented attack than last time and their backup quarterback really executed it. I don't know if they played him most of the game because they'd decided to go more pass oriented or if Johnson was injured. But I'd have much rather seen Johnson in the game because their backup made a lot of really great throws. Johnson is a good passing quarterback but the other guy is a better one. A few mistakes but overall he was very accurate and he has a very strong arm. I know it's strange to say he was very accurate when he was just 56% throwing the ball but he made some great throws for big plays where the McNeese DBs had pretty good coverage and he just put the ball where it needed to be.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth

My frozen butt is still thawing out from that evening - but good lord what a game! 2nd best game in the Keeler era (Flacco/Cuff's 8 combined TDs at Navy still is #1 in my book) - I too miss dominant Delaware football...

That chili festival at Chatty got me through that day. I was also in Annapolis in 07. Yes, that was #1 in sheer excitement, and I was sitting with the Navy class of 56 (boss's tickets when I worked there). I told them our QB was pretty good. At the end of the game they knew it.

Just popping in to say again how hacked off I am that McNeese was in the easy bracket and was in a situation where all it had to do is not make any unforced errors and the probability was overwhelming that it was going to take the lead late in the fourth quarter then made an unforced error in the form of a false start penalty. I mean, it could not be set up any better than it was for at least getting TO the national title game. Colgate at home followed by either an over rated Jacksonville State team on the road or Charleston Southern at home.

Good HEAVENS that was bad to have a false start at that point in the game. THEN follow that up with a holding penalty when Sams makes a great run to get it back to the one yard line.

I am beginning to think this playoff thing is a jinx and I don't know when McNeese is going to shake it off. They've lost 7 playoff games in a row now. Two losses came to teams they beat by double digits in the regular season. Sam Houston State by 17 this year and Western Kentucky by 25 in 2002. Plus stuff like winning at Applachian State during the regular season in 2009 then getting blown out by New Hampshire in the first round of the playoffs. No QUESTION Appalachian State had a lot better team than New Hampshire did that year.

This is getting downright weird and disturbing.

you don't have to say it, but SHSU probably walking into the semis makes it that much worse.

Is Jacksonville State really overrated? I've only watched the second half of the Auburn game and they looked good.

I don't think so, JaxSt is the favorite IMO to make it to the natty in this half of the bracket. If they and Sammy make it to the semis I think its a very tight game. Last year when we played SHSU dominated the 2nd half and won pretty comfortably. Both SHSU and JaxSt are 10 point favorites this week.

JSU looks good this year...well balanced. They are not your typical OVC team and should give anyone trouble. They looked a little unprepared for their first round game, but with that hiccup under their belt, should cruise past Saturday's opponent.

SHSU and JSU should be an interesting game.

JSU's last 3 games with Chattanooga have all been rather strange. They outgained UTC badly in all three and only lost turnovers in one of them, yet the three contests all came down to the wire.

JSU hasn't really played (beat) anyone of note. Don't forget that Mercer beat Chatty.
