Supervisor Asks Woman To Take Down American Flag

Post by wideright82 »

Is it okay to show your patriotism at the office?

For one Arlington woman, the answer was "no" after she hung an American flag in her office just before the Memorial Day weekend.

Debbie McLucas is one of four hospital supervisors at Kindred Hospital in Mansfield. Last week, she hung a three-by-five foot American flag in the office she shares with the other supervisors.

When McLucas came to work Friday, her boss told her another supervisor had found her flag offensive. "I was just totally speechless. I was like, 'You're kidding me,'" McLucas said.

McLucas' husband and sons are former military men. Her daughter is currently serving in Iraq as a combat medic.

Stifling a cry, McLucas said, "I just wonder if all those young men and women over there are really doing this for nothing."

McLucas said the supervisor who complained has been in the United States for 14 years and is formerly from Africa. McLucas said the supervisor took down Debbie's flag herself.

"The flag and the pole had been placed on the floor," McLucas said. But McLucas also said hospital higher ups had told her some patients' families and visitors had also complained.

"I was told it wouldn't matter if it was only one person," she said. "It would have to come down."

McLucas said hospital bosses told her as far as patriotism was concerned, the flag flying outside the hospital building would have to suffice.

So not only does the extremely small minority rule, they put the flag on the fucking GROUND. Tell that POS to go back to Africa. He obviously doesn't understand a thing about America.

Kindred is a long term acute care hospital. They essentially treat people on their way out of life. I would bet the majority of the patients, since they are the elderly, most likely would have liked the flag.

I wonder if there is more to this story than what is being reported. Was the flag part of a larger political display?

I could see one nitwit supervisor being offended, but I'm suprised that some families and patients also complained. I'm also suprised that the hospital caved in to those complaints, especially when the hospital flies a flag of it's own.

All telephone message boxes are full, all emails that I have sent are returned due to being full or shut down. I called the number and spoke to 3 different people in different departments and was hung up before I even spoke. I said " I am disappointed about your decision to remove the American flag" and the phone went dead. FUCK THEM.

Update on original link

Wednesday morning, however, our story received nationwide attention. We have received dozens of emails and comments from people who had something to say about it. And a receptionist at Kindred's headquarters told us they received many phone calls.

Then, late Wednesday morning, Kindred posted on its website a statement about the incident. It reads, in part: "The disagreement was over the size of the flag and not what it symbolized. We have invited the employee to put the flag back up."

We're contacting McLucas for her take on what Kindred said. We'll have that part of the story later today on CBS11TV.com.

TT, what is the problem with those that believe this was wrong letting their opinion be heard on it? I am with the group that is kinda sick and tired of a vocal minority getting their way on everything. The internet gives a voice to let people know how the general public feels on certain issues and I don't see the problem with using it. I'm interested in why you feel this way as I may be missing your point.

Where does it say the flag was put on the ground???

It does say the flag and pole were on the floor...assuming the flag was on the pole, the floot is where the pole belongs...

Other than that...Good on everyone who registered their anger...this was pure B.S.

And TT, like UAH, I'd love to hear your explanation about how this might be a lynching...

I have been unable to find it on the net, but I heard a news guy say it today on the TV that the flag was taken town and placed on the floor.

my point is that any time this sort of thing happens people from all over the f'ing country find it necessary to harass the people involved in something that frankly isn't that big of a deal. Having been involved in one of these "incidents" (not quite like this, but similar enough) to speak from experience the hostile phone calls and threats (veiled and otherwise) are crazy. The volume of email calling you every name in the book... for something that is just none of their damn business.

a minor kerfuffle at an office over a gigantic flag in a cubicle doesn't merit a call from ANYONE outside of that building... it's needless overkill, and it's a public lynching and intimidation foisted on people who've committed at worst a minor infraction in some office somewhere.

it reminds me so much of 2003-2005 when you couldn't say or do anything to contradict ol George...

I can see that and don't disagree with the people calling and making threats is bullshit business. I think that in circumstances where a minority can defeat another minority on a small issue like this is doesn't hurt to voice your backing on it. I don't mean be an asshole about it but just let them know that some of this shit goes a little over board. My feeling is that I try to stay out of others business most of the time but in this and some other cases when someone voices their opinion and causes another to have to change what should be a completely acceptable thing to do then why not voice your support? It was deemed newsworthy (it may not have been) and those that found out about it cared enough to say "WTF?"

If a Mexican flag had been hung then nothing would have been done about I would think because the administration would have feared that there would be push back and a chorus of "Racism" toward Mexican people. Why were they so quick to just remove the American flag? Because they figure they won't have to deal with these issues and can placate the situation by tucking tail and caving on it with no reprisal. It strikes me as a bit disrespectful to our citizens that they can't show their national pride as any other country would be able to do.

If it wasn't a big deal, why the need to take it down? Just flipping this around.

It will be interesting to see how big the flag was.

Yeah I meant to iclude that in my post too and also want to know if she was just being tacky with a completely over sized flag. My hunch is she may have been.
