Does Guantanamo Bay serve any strategic purpose?

Post by dbackjon »

Is there a national security reason to maintain control?

If it was returned to Cuba, would our national interests be harmed in any way?

Opinions?

Militarily, in regards to our response times. No it doesn't.

With the Castro regime still in power, I would want to see every last piece of that facility deconstructed and brought to the US before turning over control of the land, because that's all Cuba deserves. The land.

It's expensive. I'm not sure why fiscal conservatives love it so much.

Or why the guy who said it was a priority for him to shut it down 8 years ago still hasn't done it. :coffee:

Since Congress blocked the transfer of Guantanamo detainees in 2010... he doesn't really have much of an option.

Panama Canal wasn't of any strategic significance either....Barry should just follow the lead of his mentor, Jimmy.

What negative impact has the US suffered because Panama got its land back?

poor lil Obama being picked on by bug bad Congress AGAIN? say it isn't so

seeing since so many of those murder monkeys we DID release jumped right back into the murder monkey rotation I'd say the big bad Congress is on the right side of that particular argument

if only the warmongering Bushitler McCheneyburton had just killed them instead of keeping them alive for torture.....

Why does the left continue to ignore the fact that they basically controlled the ENTIRE US government from 2008-2010 and the ONLY thing they have to show for it is the clusterfuck known as Obamacare?

Let me guess. The minority of Republicans are to blame, amirite?

I actually want to hear the answer to this as well.

Because currently I see it only as a sign of the end of American Imperialism.

So are they a threat or not? Because for the last 15 years, all I've heard was that the prisoners of Guantanamo were "unlawfully detained without any evidence" and should have been immediately released. Plus that the whole point of shutting it down was that they shouldn't have been held in the first place. So what's with this transferring business, if they are all innocent?

I think it depends on what follows the Castro brothers in Cuba. If they stay Communist and continue on business as usual, we keep it.
