FCS TV Coverage

Post by SuperHornet »

Anyone else ever notice the dearth of TV coverage we get? The only games that ever get on the air outside of less than a handful of conference-tied small cable networks (like ROOT) are on ESPN3 (except for NBC's annual HBCU game). And in terms of score reporting, it's even worse. Fox doesn't bother at all. I don't think NBC does, either. CBS only covers Ivy. ABC reports SOME scores, but comes up with any excuse they can to put it off when it comes up, and they don't even get through all the scores before they shut it down and go to the next thing. This drives me BONKERS as a huge FCS fan.

And locally? Back in the '80s, our local NBC affilliate broadcast Hornet games all the time, especially Causeway and the annual tilt against UOP. We were D-II then. But now that we're D-I, they can't be bothered with sending out a crew. It's easier to air Notre Dame, I guess.

On the whole, I'm absolutely SICK of it. This elitist discrimination has GOT to stop....

The FCS playoffs drop out of the sky and land on ESPN every year, but they never invest in a little ground work to get viewers ready. They will pick a 'name' school to appear on the first weekend because they think no one would be interested in a good match up between schools 'no one has ever heard of'. If they devoted a little time each week to an FCS review/preview show, they would build an audience ready for the playoffs. Sure, they would have to cut back a little on debates over who the fourth-best team in the SEC East might be, but I wager the republic will survive that omission.

One would think they would have noticed that the most energized and exciting College Game Day events in the last couple of years were in Fargo and Harrisonburg. It shows the demand is there.

The only time this is mentioned is when ESPN has a college basketball type set up when they talk about the FCS playoffs and potential matchups.
