I'll give just a small example of Trump yet again lying as part of a strategy. I watched the first part of his speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference. While giving it he said this:
They're very dishonest people. In fact, in covering my comments, the dishonest media did not explain that I called the fake news the enemy of the people — the fake news. They dropped off the word “fake”. And all of a sudden the story became the media is the enemy. They take the word “fake” out.
Totally false. I've been watching various media sources including CNN and there's no way you could watch coverage of that issue without knowing he referred to "the fake news media." In fact I can remember a panel discussion on CNN where they were talking about him singling out certain specific news organizations.
The typical account involved showing his tweet, complete with the reference to the "fake news media," then discussing it. There has been on media effort to hide or omit the fact that he made that reference.
What he did there was attempt...successfully with respect to his choir...to provide an example of news media reporting his comments in a way that distorts the meaning. And he was lying when he did that.
And we all know what the real target is: It's any media that report something he doesn't like. If he doesn't like it it's going to be characterized as "fake news." And we have people actually falling for what he's doing.
