And now... BeachGate!
And now... BeachGate!
This is pretty damn funny. Due to lack of budget, Chris Christie closed all the state beaches in NJ for 4th of July weekend. A snooping photojournalist flew over the Governor's beach house in Island Beach State Park and caught him out on the closed beach, a safe distance from the huddled masses in Seaside Heights. What a dumbass.

You've obviously never been to NJ (congrats, btw!). Even the municipal beaches require a "beach tag" to enter. That's what happens when you have too many fucking stupid people in one place. They'll willingly submit to extortion.kalm wrote:Why, how do you close a beach?
For reference, Seaside Heights is $8/day per person to take your family on the beach.

Re: And now... BeachGate!
FYI, Delaware municipal beaches are free, but you have to get there by 8:30am or so to park within five blocks of the beach, lest you let all the Jersey and PA people take the spaces first.
Our state beaches charge a fee per car. It's something like $5 for Delaware cars and double for out of staters. Annual passes are pretty cheap. $17.50 for vets.

If you have a beach house, do you still pay the beach fee?
Re: And now... BeachGate!
I believe so. To get on the beach, you have to pass through the cattle corrals they set up.Gil Dobie wrote:If you have a beach house, do you still pay the beach fee?
I've only ever walked boardwalks in NJ, so you'd have to ask Flaggy or some other swarthy, dark-haired, big-beaked NJ dweller.

Oh. We're talking about State Parks. State Parks yea, mother fucker. But you don't need to pay to access Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle, Surfside Beach, Pawleys Island, Isle of Palms, Sullivan's Is. Folly Beach, Edisto Beach, etc... or any of the other public beaches. I thought that's what we were talking about. At the state parks you're paying for a life guard (among other amenities). I guess that's why you would go to a state park...for the life guard. or the showers. I never had to...i just walked across Artic and onto the beach.93henfan wrote:Did I stutter, motherfucker?Ibanez wrote: I don't comprehend...you have to PAY to go to the beach?

Re: And now... BeachGate!
What is this, CNN?????
Such bias reporting going on here.
1. There is one entrance to Island Beach State Park and there is a manned gate there. To close it, all you have to do is close the gate.
2. Fees for beach access are fantastic for locals (I've outlined this before). The fees pay for lifeguards and beach cleanup/restoration (call it a user fee rather than a municipal expense paid for by the residents). The real gem is that there are higher fees for weekly and seasonal access compared to daily access. This keeps the greasy city folk separated from the locals.
3. Yeah, Delaware municipal beaches are free, but the tolls on the roads to get there will drain your wallet.

I already mentioned that municipal beaches are free in Delaware. They are not in NJ, which is one of the 10,000+ reasons why New Jersey sucks, just below Martin Truex Jr.Ibanez wrote:Oh. I pay no tolls to get to the beach. We set them up to nail out of staters and people from upstate.
