You'll have to pardon my confusion, because when I said they don't, you said they do, they're just called Libertarians.

For your benefit, I'll say that people today who would most closely resemble conservatives like T Roosevelt, are libertarians. He was a big government guy in a day when many people did not understand that all bureaucratic creep builds on the bureaucratic creep that came before it.

He wasn't a libertarian.

The people today who would most closely resemble him are libertarians.

And like Kennedy or Reagan, he wouldn't sniff a nomination

Is that parsed out enough for you, Nancy?

Progressives f*cking suck... and are screwing everything up
Reasonable Liberalism is out the window
scuttled for something more extreme and less sustainable

None of the political extremes are sustainable by design
This is what is so sad about hard left hard right thinking
They are ultimately full speed ahead off a cliff

Right

I didn't say there aren't people like him anymore

I said there aren't REPUBLICANS like him

I'm with ya, Chizzy. Both on the Jill Stein being bat crazy and on the protest vote value of a vote for her. And on the lunacy of both the political extremes that are screwing things up these days as they jockey for the next soundbite/twitter/meme victory over the other. :thumb:

I'm sort of with the knucklehead on this one though-

Based on just about everything you espouse I'd place you firmly in the Johnson camp. That would have been a constructive vote. Johnson was a level headed choice

Stein is HARD left, so I can accept her as a protest vote, but it is hardly one against extremism (left or right)

I'm moving on to An Army at Dawn, part 1 of Rick Atkinson's "Liberation Trilogy" about WWII. This one's about the war in Africa. I read part 2 -- The Day of Battle -- first, about the war in Italy.

Better Rommel than Drumpf, I figure.

I've already read two books about Rommel this year. They don't make soldiers like that anymore.

This thread delivers! It's fun watching Chizzy and CID get roughed up a little!

Agree on the political extremism although I think a better description might be duopoly induced adversarialism. After all, both tribes tend to nominate center right candidates.

Book names? Recommendations? Come on Ivy, is retirement making you soft? ;)
Being wrong about a topic is called post partisanism - kalm

MAQA - putting the Q into qrazy qanon qult qonspiracy theories since 2015.

It will probably be difficult for MAQA yahoos to overcome the Qult programming but they should give being rational & reasonable a try.

Thank you for your attention to this matter - UNI88

The two I read were Knight's Cross by David Fraser (comprehensive bio) and Discovering the Rommel Murder by Charles F. Marshall (intriguing look at Rommel's life and death, based on interviews of Mrs. Rommel and German military officers by a US officer stationed in Germany at the end of the war).

Where exactly can one get that certification?

He lost North Africa and Normandy. Then he lost his ass.

With better air cover and supply lines, Rommel would've stomped Montgomery's ass at El Alamein, and we'd all be speaking German right now.

And Washington Lost New York and Pennyslvania...but we cheer him on as a military hero.

Seriously, do some reading on Rommel. It's clear you don't understand him. Do you know why he committed suicide (w/o cheating, why?)

And if he had his way, the Panzer divisions would've been ready for our troops at Normandy.

If Hitler hadn't gotten in Rommels way..Rommel would done many great things in that war.
