You lost me quickly on this post Flaggy... and a vast majority of hockey fans I'm guessing too. Round robin? :suspicious: This isn't gay soccer.
OK. 6 teams in each league. Play each team twice (10 games). Top 2 records in each group of 6 advance to final 4 and play traditional 7 game series from there. That is the only way to do the playoffs with something other than 8 or 16 team brackets, and not have someone sit and wait. But like I said, there would be great fan interest in more "other" games than just the "homer" games.

BTW, I know that I've seen the Cavaliers come to DC and not dress Lebron and Kyrie. NBA teams do that not infrequently and AFAIK, it's always on the road.

You would have already lost the regular fan.

The owners probably wouldn't go for it either.

But if you think about it, at most, there are 28 games in Round 1 of 8 teams and 14 games in Round 2 of 4 teams.
That's 42 games max to get to 2 teams. That's also as little as 24 games if all series go 4-0.
This format would guarantee 30 games between the six teams before the Conference Finals.

Yeah, it's out of the box thinking, but I think ratings would be better on a per game avg for those 30 games.

You keep typing, but I can't get past the first couple words. Olympics are fine for this. NHL, it's a hard no.

And another thing, , 10 games in 2 weeks. 2 rounds of 7 game series = 1 month. :tothehand:

Hockey is a tough sport. If you've never played it, you probably wouldn't get the need for pacing. FWIW, I think the NHL actually takes a day or two less for a series than the NBA. Last year the Caps/Pens 7 game set was over 14 days. Wiz/Celtics 7 game set went 15 days.

I'm aware. Pretty sure my math is close enough, factoring in maximization of weekend dates for TV.

Not for the NHL really. The Caps/Pens series last year was: Thursday, Saturday, Monday, Wednesday, Saturday, Monday, Wednesday.

I said 10 games in 2 weeks (approx 14 days) not sure how that is much different.

What happens when one Round 1 series goes 4 games and the other goes 7. The first winner has to wait a week, maybe as much as 9 days, to play again. Pacing flies out the window.

This will all never happen because the SC Finals are locked into a certain part of the year. Can't cut off 2 weeks of playoffs and still play the SC Finals at that time of the year. This should have been done before expanding the playoffs. Too late now. Only way to do it would be to extend the season by 2 weeks with 14 extra days off sprinkled in throughout the season. Still, not gonna happen.

Hold the phone. I am screwed up. I meant to say 10 games in 3 weeks, initially, but somehow typed 2. And I carried the error by saying 14 days.

Rockies are in. Never would of thought it in April. They also have no fear of Grienke and stand a decent chance of sending the snakes home. If wild card teams do not like the set up, then win your division.

Also good luck Twins.

Who came up with those advantages?
Santana has never won in Yankee Stadium. Even?
Does "Hitting" include home runs?
I'll take my chances on the fielding.
Depends on the day. Bullpen can be as bad as good.

That said, Twins will win 4-1.

I think Santana will be ready tonight.

Twins have a lot of young bats, that have raised their averages from the beginning of the season. They do have 9 players in double figures for homers, in a pitcher friendly stadium.

Defense has 2 possible gold gloves in Mauer and Buxton. Buxton has the speed to cover most of the outfield and can catch and throw. Hicks is great, but not at Bucks level. He has saved many runs for the Twins this year.

Bullpen, Twins have nuttin, need to get lucky.
