Re: Sun Belt Thread 2017
At this point Troy beating LSU a few weeks back is a real manifestation of the fact that college football is incredibly unpredictable. LSU loses to Troy then beats Florida and Auburn in back to back weeks. Meanwhile Troy scores only 8 points in its next game after an open date in losing to South Alabama.

Chadwell was at CSU and just took over the reigns at CCU this season while Joe Moglia is on a leave of absence.ASUG8 wrote:IMHO you should be shaking down the former CCU coach Chadwell.Baldy wrote: Hindsight is 20/20, but we should have hired Ayers when we had the chance.
He hasn't exactly been knocking it out of the park this year, either.

turns out Florida may be not very good. Auburn either.JohnStOnge wrote:At this point Troy beating LSU a few weeks back is a real manifestation of the fact that college football is incredibly unpredictable. I know, but assuming Moglia comes back Chadwell may be a free agent. If you guys stick to TO he's a solid option.Baldy wrote:Chadwell was at CSU and just took over the reigns at CCU this season while Joe Moglia is on a leave of absence.ASUG8 wrote:

I think Chadwell was hired as a "head coach in waiting". Moglia is 68 years old after all.ASUG8 wrote:I know, but assuming Moglia comes back Chadwell may be a free agent. My focus is on Mike Houston, just like it was two years ago.

I doubt very seriously that Houston will go to the Sun Belt - he's on the express train to a P5 HC job within the next 2-3 years. Sooner if UNC makes an offerBaldy wrote:I think Chadwell was hired as a "head coach in waiting". Moglia is 68 years old after all.ASUG8 wrote:

It's not common for a FCS coach to go straight to a P5. It's possible with Houston though.CID1990 wrote:I doubt very seriously that Houston will go to the Sun Belt - he's on the express train to a P5 HC job within the next 2-3 years. I'm fairly sure Larry Fedora is safe, and so is Dave Doeren. The question is going to be East Carolina and whether or not they keep Scottie Montgomery.CID1990 wrote:Take what I said to the bankBaldy wrote: It's not common for a FCS coach to go straight to a P5. It's possible with Houston though.

Also, I'm not so sure Elon's Curt Cignetti won't be a hotter commodity than Houston, mainly because Cignetti worked under Nick Saban and FBS athletic directors eat that schit up.

Houston is a perfect storm of proven ability (coaching and recruiting in difficult environs), organizational philosophy, media savvy and even good looksPwns wrote:I'm fairly sure Larry Fedora is safe, and so is Dave Doeren. Nobody else at the FCS level is going to come anywhere close - no matter who they worked with

Yeah I heard that too. I don't believe it. Maybe spanos will let us use his tin foil hat and ouiji board so we can conduct a seance and finally get the truth.

Does Southern have a shot tomorrow? Or will they lose to Jawjuh State and go to 0-8?

I, just as our GS friends here, am amazed that this conversation is even happening. I hope Southern wins, but also that they don't decide to begin or continue a winning streak in Boone.Ivytalk wrote:Does Southern have a shot tomorrow? Or will they lose to Jawjuh State and go to 0-8?

Played our best game of the year, by far but still shot ourselves in the dick on too many occasions.
In the two weeks since Tyler Sumner's much too late departure, this team has made great strides. We still have a country mile to go, but we aren't nearly as bad as I thought. The Apps have dropped two in a row to teams they probably should have beaten rather easily, so I'm sure they will take their frustrations out and skull drag the poor Eagles up and down the field on Thursday night.

https://www.sbnation.com/college-footba ... a-southern“Georgia Southern is an easy job to figure out,” one head coach told SB Nation. “Every time they try to change what makes them Georgia Southern, they pay for it.”
Of course, though the article doesn't say it, one thing that made them Georgia Southern is that they were I-AA/FCS.

Re: Sun Belt Thread 2017
Which is it? Is the Sun Belt basically a glorified FCS league or is Georgia Southern struggling because we're FBS? You have to pick one.JohnStOnge wrote:https://www.sbnation.com/college-footba ... a-southern“Georgia Southern is an easy job to figure out,” one head coach told SB Nation. “Every time they try to change what makes them Georgia Southern, they pay for it.”

I basically agree about the offensive system, though. Georgia Southern has always had elite-level FCS talent, but there's no way that we have more playoff wins than any other program if it were not for that system. And Army and Navy are both arguably doing considerably better relative to their talent because of their offensive system.
