For a while NASCAR began to draw the coastal and western middle-upper class fans, but that is a fickle crowd- they'd as soon watch F1 or Indy
The key to look at isn't why the southern base abandoned NASCAR (because that already happened)
NASCAR should look at why theyre losing the younger, higher class fans they drew in in the last 25 years

I don't hate NASCAR. I've actually been to the race in Vegas. It was really exciting with the flyover and build up to the start. Meanwhile, NASCAR has thrown every gimmick they can think of into the points system, race format, and playoff format to the point that it has cheapened the whole thing tremendously. That only happens maybe 20% of the time in NASCAR.

NASCAR would go a long way toward restoring the sport if they reopened N Wilkesboro and Rockingham and shut down any number of the 1.5 mile tracks that put people to sleep.
