My experience with SROs is that (with exceptions) the job is sometimes reserved for officers not cut out for the street, depending on the agency

seeing how this guy retired immediately I'd say he was already RIP (retired in place)

Edit: they arent the only solution ... but try to get into a federal building with a gun - that's your solution. Multiple layers of security, of which armed guards are a part

and take them seriously instead of dumping the dead wood and cowards there

I agree. This coward - and that's what he is - pokes a hole in the much loved line, "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun." That school had a good guy with a gun and he failed. Maybe he had never been tested. Regardless, he was the good guy with a gun and he failed.

RE: Federal buildings - the layers of SCRUTINIZED security in most buildings is pretty damn good. Multiple locked doors to get to the people, guards, etc... However, and I know you know this, that's only part of the solution. Preventing nut cases from getting the weapons is paramount.

It would also be great if LE would follow up on tips. Elementary detective work could've prevented last week.
Spoiler: show
And I think it's possible. And I think you can do it and not jeopardize the 2nd Amendment or infringe on the rights of responsible gun owners.

I don't necessarily disagree. But are you going to arm a 9 yr old against a school shooter? I don't think you can reasonably expect a 9 yr old...or maybe any high school student to protect themselves and others against a school shooter - short of hiding in place.

You can make it more difficult for those that shouldn't have access w/o trampling gun owners rights. It also helps if agencies do their jobs. The USAF, FBI, etc...

As someone that doesn't own a gun - I support the 2nd Amendment and I don't want my freedoms infringed.

Make it as difficult as you want, its still really easy to get guns.

Hell, all somebody has to do is walk up to a cop car asking for help, take out the cop and you have an arsenal at your disposal. Break into a house steal guns, rob a gun store, its easier than buying a gun legally thats why criminals do these things. Its not hard to get guns, no matter what laws you pass

I really don't care what anyone does or the laws they pass, I will always have guns as long as I am alive so none of this effects me in any way.

Just pointing out how stupid it is to think you can legislate evil or stop people from getting guns.

Democrats love to try and legislate evil (gun control). Republicans love to legislate morality (prohibition, marriage). It never works.

I said the same thing last night when I heard. I told my wife hes going to kill himself in days, if he hasn't already.

That is if none of those parents don't get to him first.

Personally, I'd rush in without a gun, regardless of my personal safety.

An example of a school board going full retard:
“...In the wake of the shooting in Florida the school board set a new policy. According to KATC, "Any student accused of talking about guns or school shootings will be investigated by three entities: the school board, the sheriff's department, and the district attorney's office."....”
https://pjmedia.com/parenting/student-f ... -like-gun/

And I’m sure there are lots more all over the country with similar idiotic knee jerk responses. Also get ready for more stories of elementary school kids getting suspended for making gun symbols with with their fingers or chewing pastries into the shape of a gun..

So, "talking about real school shootings" that "students should be reported to the authorites" would include criticism of the FBI, government, or potential staged school shooting hoax videos that are going viral online to the point of YouTube changing their algorithms, etc.? :twocents: :ohno:

“A person close to the teenager accused of killing 17 people at a Florida high school warned the FBI she was concerned he would “get into a school and just shoot the place up,” according to a transcript of her call with a bureau tip line operator more than a month before the massacre.

The transcript, reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, provides chilling detail about the woman’s efforts on Jan. 5 to warn authorities about Nikolas Cruz’s propensity for violence and his troubled past...”
https://www.wsj.com/articles/fbi-tip-li ... 1519415442

“Broward County deputies received at least 18 calls warning them about Nikolas Cruz from 2008 to 2017, including concerns that he "planned to shoot up the school" and other threats and acts of violence before he was accused of killing 17 people at a high school.

The warnings, made by concerned people close to Cruz, came in phone calls to the Broward County Sheriff's Office, records show. At least five callers mentioned concern over his access to weapons, according to the documents. None of those warnings led to direct intervention.

In February 2016, neighbors told police that they were worried he “planned to shoot up the school” after seeing alarming pictures on Instagram showing Cruz brandishing guns.
About two months later, an unidentified caller told police that Cruz had been collecting guns and knives. The caller was “concerned (Cruz) will kill himself one day and believes he could be a school shooter in the making,” according to call details released by the Sheriff's Office.

A second cousin asked police to take away Cruz's guns after his mom died Nov. 1. "Nikolas is reported to have rifles and it is requested that (deputies) recover these weapons," the dispatcher noted from the call....

.....The Sheriff’s Office has since opened two internal affairs investigations looking into whether its deputies followed the department’s standards after receiving two phone calls.
After the February 2016 call, a deputy forwarded the information to the Stoneman Douglas School Resource Officer, Deputy Scot Peterson.

Peterson, 54, retired after an internal investigation was launched into why he sat outside the school for about four minutes and never entered as the shooter killed students and staff.
Two deputies, Edward Eason and Guntis Treijis, have been placed on restricted administrative assignment, pending an investigation into how they handled calls, Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said.....

.....Cruz — diagnosed with depression, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and autism — had a long history of violent outbursts.

...Deputies also were told Cruz could be a danger to himself. On Sept. 28, 2016, deputies and social workers were called to Stoneman Douglas High School after receiving reports that Cruz had attempted suicide by drinking gasoline a week earlier and was cutting himself.

The Florida Department of Children and Families launched an investigation into the reported self-cutting and allegations of neglect that same day, according to a DCF report on the incident.

Authorities chose not to commit Cruz at the time under the Baker Act, a law in Florida that allows authorities to hospitalize people for mental evaluation. The decision came under the advisement of clinicians at Henderson Behavioral Health, which school counselors worried may have been "premature" in their advice, according to the DCF notes.”

Check out the following interviews

-Everyone thought it was a drill

-Teacher says they were told that same day they would have a "Red Flag" (active shooter) drill.

-Other people say they were told there would be a "drill with fake guns"

- Girl was walking out of her classroom, talking with the "Suspect" (she uses airquotes) and says there must have been another shooter, because the shooting sounds were coming from far away and she was walking with him.
