NDSU vs. EWU National Championship Game Thread

Post by kalm »

Image

A petition to the NCAA has been filed to make the field half red and all 23 EWU fans (we've grown from the 17 in 2010) have signed it. Eagle Nation is making preparations to fly south and descend upon Frisco as I type this.

#2 in total offense with a top 10 rushing attack and an improved defense goes up against the mighty herd dynasty which is giving up just 11 ppg and has added a passing game to its ground attack.

SDSU and many NDSU fans have already proclaimed Saturdays semifinal in the FFD as the true championship game. We shall see.

Rumors are Bill Fette is coming out of retirement and will be in the booth as a replay official in order to assure a fair game.

The Bizon are the presumed favorite and for good reason but if these chippy eagles get a couple of players back on the defensive line and can win the turnover battle, they have a real shot of ending the dynasty.

Best of of luck to my friend, Gilbert A Dobie.

(Please keep in mind that this is an official game thread so no smack talk or personal attacks please...no wait a minute...this is cs.com, with one active Bizon and EWU poster, so fire away....)

JBB out!

NDSU by 3+ scores in this one. Won't be close.

I'll take 42-24 NDSU.

They should alternate the red and green more like Central Arkansas' field.

Each team gets their name in an endzone. So EWU has Eastern instead of Egals?

JBB out!
The Egals will be the best team NDSU has played this year. Hopefully our 4 Running Backs that were injured, 3 in the SDSU game are able to return for the big game. Finished off SDSU with the #5 back, 6 rushes for 77 yards. Probably see Jabril Cox, MVFC defensive player of the year and Buchanan finalist, spy Barriere. The Egals, being a Big Sky team, will probably be able to cover the Bison receivers better than most. The Bison TE's and RB's out of the backfield will be harder to stay with, specifically when the Bison run the Diamond set, as a few of us fans call it. Bison will go for the long drives to wear down the EWU defense. If that happens Bison win. EWU can win thru the air, if they avoid INT's or any turnovers. Should be a good game.

Good luck Kalm and Blackfalkin!

It's actually Robert Gilmour Dobie.

Screeming Eagle and JBB can start their own thread.

Who's UD's coach now? Rocko? I'm sure he'd be happy to work the chain gang.

That was a 3+ score margin of victory on the east coast.

On the west coast, it was somewhere between a 3 and 12 score margin of victory, depending on who you talk to.

And it probably wasn't really that many.

If NDSU wins this I think they will finish highest in the Sagarin ratings that any I-AA/FCS team has ever finished. Right now they are at 17. That, by the way, is one spot higher than Central Florida.

I am hoping for a good game. But I think we are at the point where we need to have some of lower seeded or unseeded teams do better. At one time, during the time when the field was at least 16 teams, teams outside of the top 4 going in had won almost half of the tournaments. 11 of 23. Historically there have been teams that finished 12th, 13th, and 15th in the final regular season poll that went on to win the national title. After this year a team outside of the top 4 not winning will not have happened for 10 years now and I think North Dakota State is a factor in that.

You’re seeing a situation where there are a handful of power programs routinely make it deep into the playoffs. North Dakota State leads that charge, with Eastern Washington and James Madison in pursuit. There are three or four others you expect to get playoff wins each year. After that, everyone else is hit and miss as a program, rising up every few years with a solid team but spending several years after that mediocre.

It appears the top programs have separated from the pack. To some degree it’s always been that way— Montana, Marshall, Youngstown State, Georgia Southern, App State did it during some period— but it seemed there used to be more turnover. Now, it seems, the same few teams are always in it with a shot. This is especially true given NDSUs consistency at the top.

5Dimes opens the game at:

NDSU -13.5, exactly as I predicted they would
O/U 60.5, which I think is a tad low

Laying the points is the obvious pick here.

Yeah, it's almost as if there aren't as many good teams these days.
