I think they truly believe that money will not corrupt their tender snowflakes in DC.
This happens on both sides. Remember the 2010 Tea Party wave who were going to drain the swamp, and then 60 Minutes had video of them on yachts with lobbyists in the Bahamas before the end of January 2011?
We should move everything to a place where no one really wants to be....Kansas City, Omaha, South Dakota...one of those types of places.
The State Dept proves daily that constituent offices do not need to be in DC. Nobody relies on courier, mail, or good ol fashioned office visits any more
The entire Bureau of Consular affairs could be in rural NC, for example
This is one reason DoD has such a huge constituency... they have bases spread out all over the place and nobody wants to lose them. The admin side of every single executive agency could be farmed out around the country, creating jobs in places that need them. The only person who needs to be in DC is the Secretary and the Assistant secretaries
This would need to happen in places where there are decent school districts, but those are not exclusive to metro areas
The one thing keeping me from a domestic tour is DC rent. I’d go to Iowa in a heartbeat

Maybe someone else can follow up on something. I Googled about it and got a hit on the Washington Post. The Google search line is "AOC boyfriend: Conservatives spread hoax that Ocasio Cortez hired ..." Unfortunately when I click on any Washington Post article nowadays they want me to pay to read.

The problem is that I don't know that the man you are talking about is credible. I think there is a big problem with "fake news" right now but I think that, unfortunately, it's not the situation Trump is talking about. I think there is a lot of "fake news" coming from the right. So my initial response is having to see something more than some guy who got kicked off a social media site claiming something. Also need to see something outside of what is generally known as the "conservative media." The "conservative media" are, by definition, biased. They openly trying to promote a point of view. I think the "mainstream media" are left biased. But I also think they are at least TRYING to be objective. They are not established for the specific purpose of promoting either a "liberal" or a "conservative" point of view. The "conservative" media are openly specifically established to promote a "conservative" point of view.Col Hogan wrote:The basis of the story is this...claim is made by conservative...AOC and her Chief of Staff totally deny it...MSM, including the Washington Post, do no further research and run with AOCs position...JohnStOnge wrote:Maybe someone else can follow up on something. If you are referring to CNN, MSNBC, WaPo, NYT, et al they aren’t in the least bit trying to be objective, amd they are promoting a liberal point of view. The examples are countless. Heck, just in the last several weeks, in addition to their non stop Trump bashing which has been going on for close to 3 years now, look at their coverage of thr Covington HS kids and of the Mullet guy..

I did read the opening posts in this thread and I know about the e mail address. The problem is that we have a conservative media now that take a few facts out of context and spin it into this grand conspiracy thing that's totally out of whack with reality. An example is that Uranium One thing. Absolutely nothing to it. But it persists in the conservative echo chamber as some kind of ominous thing the Evil Clintons did.Col Hogan wrote:So, do I need to spoon feed you all the facts...or can you do your own research...JohnStOnge wrote:

Whatever. We've got a real problem in this country with "conservative" media distorting and misleading. That's where the real "fake news" problem is. All of us would be much better off sticking with what is referenced as the "mainstream media" while at the same time recognizing that there is some left bias there.CID1990 wrote:You sound exactly like a MAGAtard spinning Jared KushnerJohnStOnge wrote:

It would be great if there were media sources with zero bias. But when it comes to credibility something like the Washington Post or NBC News is far more credible than something like Fox News or the Washington Examiner.

There is a curious lack of .... curiosity from the Washington Post on this, and somehow I don't think you are ready to acknowledge that they would be VERY curious if she were a conservative. In reality, I could care less whether she pays the dude or not. Hell she can hire him outright for all I care. She is going to become just as entitled and flaunty as any of the other 500 politicians on the Hill.
But to suggest that somehow this story doesn't merit a little bit of investigative journalism simply because AOC SAYS SO and the WaPo agrees with her is just blind bullsh!t - and that is why I compared you with people spinning Jared Kushner - because it is exactly the same process. I haven't read what the Washington Post wrote about the kid in the MAGA hat because they want me to pay to read and I'm not doing that. However, I noted the thing where people said that seeing the whole incident in context changed the initial impression. I looked at the video that was supposed to change the impression. And it did not change the basic impression. The kid in the MAGA hat was, to me, clearly messing with the Native American guy. So I suspect that if I did see what the Washington Post wrote on it I would not agree with your assessment of it.CID1990 wrote: WaPo was almost as fast to claim this was a hoax as they were to suggest that a schoolboy in a MAGA hat harassed a native American at the Lincoln Memorial...

The full video that clearly debunks the narrative pushed by the media, including WaPo, has already been posted in this forum
Even MJ went into deflect mode and wouldn’t refute it. You are intentionally putting your head in the sand.

Yes I know we discussed the full video on this forum. That's how I accessed it. I don't know about the Washington Post in particular. But the basic story presented by the mainstream media was that the students were having an exchange with some Black guys and the old Native American guy decided to try to come between them. Then he was mocked by the students.CID1990 wrote:You obviously are getting your information from a very narrow range of sources.JohnStOnge wrote:
I haven't read what the Washington Post wrote about the kid in the MAGA hat because they want me to pay to read and I'm not doing that. However, I noted the thing where people said that seeing the whole incident in context changed the initial impression. I looked at the video that was supposed to change the impression. And it did not change the basic impression. The kid in the MAGA hat was, to me, clearly messing with the Native American guy. So I suspect that if I did see what the Washington Post wrote on it I would not agree with your assessment of it.

So I looked at the full video and what it shows is consistent with that. And it shows that the guy in the MAGA hat was clearly messing with him. I don't know why MJ would've gone into "deflect mode" because there was no need to. I had numerous posts in the thread with the full video pointing out that the basic story presented by the mainstream media is consistent with what's on that full video.
