NASCAR is also moving the Richmond race to Sunday afternoon in 2020, which they did a few years ago...
...and so many people complained that they moved it back to Saturday night.
And now they're doing it again.

They don't know wtf they want to do anywhere in NASCAR. Discombobulated is the word that comes to mind. They think they're a sinking ship, because they haven't yet realized that all of the wannabe fans that hopped on the bandwagon in the 90s aren't coming back. They just need to accept contraction back to about a 1990 level of interest, stabilize, and embrace the fans they still have.∞∞∞ wrote:NASCAR is also moving the Richmond race to Sunday afternoon in 2020, which they did a few years ago...

Wow. Front row lockout for the prancing horse in Bahrain. 21 year old Charles Leclerc with his first pole. That guy is going to be great. Mark my words. Ferrari is apparently back, and he's been faster than defacto #1 Ferrari driver Vettel all year.

So far 2 races (poles) in, it's Ferrari, Benz, and half of team Red Bull...the everyone else...then Williams...93henfan wrote:Wow. Haas kinda looking like the better of the rest. We'll see if Grosjean can keep the car on the track and actually finish a race for once.
Going to see if I can find the race online tomorrow, otherwise I'll watch the replay sometime later in the week.
Re: 2019 NASCAR/INDYCAR/F1
Williams is a disaster. Heard a terrible stat for them today. They qualified slower at Bahrain this year than last, and qualified slower last year than in 2017. That is just turrible. If Claire doesn't get them fixed by the end of the year, they may be done.
F1 really needs Williams and McClaren to unfork themselves. They're jokes. I think McClaren will right the ship. They got both drivers in the top ten today, even with Lando Norris having his best lap ruined by Grosjean blocking because Vettel blocked him.

Disaster for Ferrari. Should have been an easy 1-2 finish, but Vettel spins himself while being passed by Hamilton on fresh tires after an undercut pit stop, then Leclerc (who dominated the first 3/4 of the race) has recovery system failure with about 15 laps left.
Hamilton, Bottas, and Mercedes steal one. High thievery.

Ferrari should thank Team Reanult's incompetence. LeClarac wouldn't have even made the podium if not for the race finishing under caution as Red Bull was going to take 3.93henfan wrote:Disaster for Ferrari. There is a God! Darrell "Boogity Boogity Boogity" Waltrip is going to retire from broadcasting after this season. Can't happen soon enough.

The best troll ever would be either Jeff Gordon or Dale Jr shrieking "boogity, boogity, boogity" when the green drops in the first race without DW.CAA Flagship wrote:93henfan wrote:There is a God! Re: 2019 NASCAR/INDYCAR/F1
Could be. I might have gone to the last well attended (over 100k) Bristol race, the 2015 Aug night race with the Aerosmith pre race concert. It seemed pretty full, and I remember reading somewhere it was close to a (now 146k capacity) sellout. The last Bristol race I went to was the following Spring 2016 race, the one Peyton Manning was the honorary official. With Junior still driving & sunny weather, I was shocked at the low attendance. I read media attendance estimates of 70k-90k, but I thought now way was more than 1/3 full/50k butts in seats.93henfan wrote:There are 25K tops at Bristol today.
I saw a tweet from this past Sat where someone claimed that there had been only 36k presale tickets. The Bristol paper said 38k attendance, and the Johnsonville & Kingsport papers said reporters in the press box estimated 35k. Which means there might not have been more than 25k butts in seats.

I’m sure Spring attendance sucked in 2017. Last year there was even less at the start of the early April race, but rain was forecast all day with cold weather, so they had the weather excuse. They got the race started, but it got delayed & then red flagged and finished on Monday. On Friday the forecast was only 40% chance of rain on Sunday, so weather wasn't much of an excuse.
I’m sure they knew even with good weather attendance would suck and they made the decision last year to close off over 1/3 of the seats. They should just get rid of the spring race after next year. The attendance and atmosphere sucks compared to the Aug (moving to Sept next year) night race.

It's the stupidest catchphrase uttered on television.93henfan wrote:There is a God! Darrell "Boogity Boogity Boogity" Waltrip is going to retire from broadcasting after this season. Can't happen soon enough.
I also fear it's become so ingrained in NASCAR it'll never die.
Re: 2019 NASCAR/INDYCAR/F1
Somebody mentioned Raftery on the Final Four, and that's about the closest comparison. But even MAN-TO-MAN doesn't cheapen the sport quite as much as B-B-B. Ugh.∞∞∞ wrote:It's the stupidest catchphrase uttered on television.93henfan wrote:There is a God! Darrell "Boogity Boogity Boogity" Waltrip is going to retire from broadcasting after this season. I didn't watch the race, but the JL FB page is angry with Keselowski. Apparently he forked Joey over at the end.
I personally don't have a problem with hard racing your teammate when they're faster, but a lot of people do.

Re: 2019 NASCAR/INDYCAR/F1
Mercedes completely pwned the China Gran Prix. Wasn't ever close after about lap 5, announcers were saying Ferrari thought they had a good setup for long straight, but they stood no match for the curvy course. All in all a pretty boring race, most interesting aspect was the varying pit strategies.

I actually tried to watch a little of the replay of the F1... unwatchable. I think the NBA might be more entertaining.
Re: 2019 NASCAR/INDYCAR/F1
Yeah, China was one of the most boring races in a long time with HAM leading wire to wire and nobody challenging. Ferrari couldn't even come up with a counter-strategy on tires to make it interesting. They must be freaking out in Maranello this week. Binotto not getting it done after the firing of Arrivabene. Could be a historically short tenure as Principal.
