Peggy Noonan vs. Mark Zuckerberg

Post by Ivytalk »

Interesting op-ed piece by conservative pundit Peggy Noonan in today’s WSJ. She advocates the breakup of Big Tech and regulating those companies like a public utility. She calls Zuck an “imperious twerp” and points out ways that Republicans have been cowed/bribed/lobbied into avoiding antitrust investigations. She’s always entertaining, if occasionally over the top.

It's fascinating that "Big Tech" is in the sights of Republicans for Anti-trust
while Big ISP is simultaneously being fostered, funded and fiercely protected by the same folks

Like all politicians, they're more interested in going after those that aren't on their side and protecting the ones that are.

You and I are on the same page as far as Comcast and the ISPs. Big Tech is interesting. I'm not sure who can and will compete with FB as they now stand but people are choosing to stop using it. It's a voluntary thing and breaking it up will not stop a determined and well-financed third party from using other platforms to influence people. Alphabet and Amazon are competing with each other more and more and I think that trend will continue. There is also more than likely a new technological innovation around the corner which will be the next big thing and render the antitrust argument against them moot.

I have to have an ISP to access the Internet including Facebook but I can do a lot of things without using Facebook, Alphabet or Amazon.

Bingo..!
Politicians will take anybody's money
but only liberal states besides Alaska have fought the Net Neutrality repeal
there is not one conservative run state (besides Alaska) that has even bothered to pretend

Note:
Conservative politicians take money from Google and Facebook

So Big ISP is only in the pockets of Republicans?

That would be quite a feat - own just one party AND create a monopoly for itself
