Don't call it climate change

Post by HI54UNI »

Global warming is no longer climate change. Now it's a climate emergency! Or climate crisis! Or climate breakdown! And global warming is now global heating!

Look I get it...
we'll be dead soon so who cares (I certainly will, I'm in my 50's)
but due to various geographical anomaly, aren't you in one of the states that gets the most climate disasters?

Iowa is strangely getting colder and weirder and wetter by the year
as most other states are getting hotter and dryer

Glacier National Park just took down all their signs (erected during the previous administration) that claimed that the glaciers there would be completely gone by 2020.

Spoiler: the glaciers expanded slightly over the last two years, and will certainly still be there in 2020

I think they should have left them up.

The Central U.S. winters are trending worse between Montana and Illinois
while the coasts are getting warmer

weird as hell
they say the the cold currents coming down from Canada will increase as the coasts get warmer

So I would look for the glaciers to increase in that area

I’ve said many times -

the fact of climate change is frequently conflated with the hypotheses of its effects

Many people will rightly point to hard scientific numbers that show CO2 levels rising, and that the rise is anthropogenic

but then they go completely off the rails with cities under water, glaciers disappearing (with none forming somewhere else), hockey sticks, and other crystal ball nonsense

I think the signs should be left up as monuments to the hubris of ignorance

Sounds like bullshit. Googling only comes up with HotAir and the like. Link?

Closest I can find is them citing a 2003 study that said two of the largest glaciers could become inactive by 2030

Does anyone else think its odd that in an alleged effort to "repeat" a photograph to show the effects of climate change not a SINGLE one of those comparative pictures shows the same spot? Or is taken FROM the same spot?

And analjelly, before you go all spandos on me, I'm not insinuating the glaciers aren't receding. They are. I've been up there myself many times over the past 40+ years and seen some of the changes. But it just makes one suspicious (like maybe they're trying to exaggerate the impact?) when two photos don't show the same spot from the same angle...it's really not that difficult.

Wrong, Reek.

There was a visitor’s center sign in the park that announced they’d be gone by 2020. It was removed recently. Fact.

You are MY bitch, not the other way around. Go find your own goddamn link. Prove me wrong.

I can only speak confidently on my little slice of the pie. Every winter growing up, the ponds of Slower DE froze solid and we'd buy ice skates and skate most of Jan and Feb.

In the mid 80s, the freezing started to be hit or miss.

Now they don't freeze over any more. You may get superficial patches here and there for a week.

Just wondering where you came by the info.

I don't see anything that makes me think NPS believed all glaciers would be gone from GNP by 2020.

I doubt there was a sign in the visitors center that said that. Thought you'd have seen something to convince you of the fact. I guess not.

I normally have my lawn watering system set up to water three times a week...so far this year, I’ve watered four times...the rest has been covered by rain...

It is Texas, and the forecast for the next ten days has only one day of rain...so things are returning to normal...but we’ve definitely had a very wet spring...

Keep the flyover zone nice the next two weeks, as I will be driving through instead of flying over this time. Thanks in advance.

Quit wasting water, motherfucker!!!! :tothehand: :tothehand: :kisswink:

In San Antonio we're only allowed to water ONE day a week. I have not turned on my water ONCE since last September. It has rained at a minimum every 3rd day since then except ONE stretch of 4 days without rain. My back yard is perfect right now, and I haven't had to pay through the nose to get it there. :thumb: :thumb:

They should have just stuck with "Global Warming" because there is indeed a warming trend in place right now. There may be questions about perspective with respect to geological time as well as with respect to cause and effect but, right now, we are in a warming trend.

Technically correct...
8 of the last 10 years have been the hottest since records have been kept
and teh general trend for the last 30 years is up

Bill Nye has a standing bet for $50k with anybody willing to bet against 2019 being the hottest on record

it's Global Warming
but it doesn't manifest itself as such at every location on earth
