I haven't kept up with the arenas the past 20 years. Are the rinks mostly uniform in size nowadays? I seem to remember back in the day that Boston Garden's ice was tiny and places like Calgary were yuge: wider and, between the blue lines, longer. That would have an impact on the roster. Boston would want big tough defensemen while Calgary would want rabbits.89Hen wrote:BTW, I wouldn't be that shocked if there was a minuscule difference in NBA having more of a home court advantage. Basketball is a little more of a 3D game which brings in visuals. Like everyone, I love that scene in Hoosiers when they measure the basket and foul line. But in reality, I could see where vision of the basket and surroundings could make a difference. A team gets used to their own visuals.
Ice hockey is more 2D and with the same white ice and glass in every arena, the look isn't that different. I've played hockey at several NHL arenas, and during play you'd never actually know you were in a big arena. It isn't until a stoppage of play or sitting on the bench that you start to look up at the seats.

I don't think there are any more size anomalies in the NHL. Boston and Buffalo both were short rinks.93henfan wrote:I haven't kept up with the arenas the past 20 years. Not sure if you paid attention to the Flyers back in the day but one of the funniest ones was when the Flyers painted their board dashers orange and the NHL said they MUST be yellow... never mind that the Canadiens dashers were light blue.... they claim they grandfathered them in. Then Quebec joins the NHL with their light blue dashers and the NHL says nothing.

I think the Flyers should grandfather back to Cooperalls.89Hen wrote:I don't think there are any more size anomalies in the NHL. Boston and Buffalo both were short rinks.93henfan wrote:

Whalers. Didn't Google. I knew it in the 80s. I was still following hockey then.89Hen wrote:Without googling, can you tell me the other team that wore them?93henfan wrote:

I am partial to this one. I have a few old school game jerseys with the snaps that go under your crotch to keep the opposition from pulling your jersey over your head in a fight.89Hen wrote:Had a Whalers cap and tshirt that I wore the hell out of. Greatest sports logo ever IMO.93henfan wrote:

Game 7 looms.
No home team seems to want to win (only 2 home wins so far in the series).

Blues ahead 3-0 with less than 8 minutes left. The third goal silenced the TD Garden.

Blues win 4-1, Good on them. Flaggy will hoist a glass of cheap Chianti to Berube’s boys, and CitGrad will find a racial issue somehow.

Re: Stanley Cup Finals
Really happy for the many die-hard Blues fans here in the center of the Rust Belt.
But I'll be happy once the parade is over so I don't have to hear that Gloria song over and over.. JFC, that is the worst song for a team. What's worse is the strange looks I get from people at stores when I say how lame that song is. WTF? How did they get so brainwashed, so quickly? I blame Philly.
