Re: The Iran War
As I’ve said before... many times..
This is why you make treaties
The Iran “deal” gave away the farm for an ostensible short delay to uranium enrichment. It was meaningless, unenforceable, and gave an immediate financial shot in the arm to a worldwide recognized state sponsor of Islamic terrorism.
The formulation of the Iran deal was a failure of foreign policy, not a triumph. We were right to withdraw from it, because it encourages other bad actors to pursue “deals” instead of treaties (the way it is meant to be done)

One thing is for sure
Seems like the Iranians still have zero respect for John Kerry
him asking them to wait out Trump and all

Re: The Iran War
I heard an interesting idea on the radio during my travels back and forth from Home Depot this weekend.
We don't really "need" middle east oil anymore. Pull out completely and let China be the peacekeepers and keep the strait open for business.
We'd be out of that nonsense and the middle east would realize how much easier it was to deal with us over China.

Re: The Iran War
Are we really easier to deal with then China? Especially in the short-term? China wants mineral rights, access to markets, etc. and doesn't worry about human rights or conflicts. The true bill for dealing with China won't come due for a while and I'm guessing plenty of rulers would be willing to kick that can down the road.CID1990 wrote:That is coming to a theater near youandy7171 wrote:I heard an interesting idea on the radio during my travels back and forth from Home Depot this weekend.

If you are a corruptocrat Middle Eastern country and your only exports are oil, people, and terrorism (that’s just about all of them), then yes - China is much easier to deal with than we areUNI88 wrote:Are we really easier to deal with then China? "U.S. says it kills top Iranian commander Soleimani in air strike
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The United States killed Iranian Major-General Qassem Soleimani, head of the elite Quds Force and spearhead of Iran’s spreading military influence in the Middle East, on Friday in an air strike at Baghdad airport, the Pentagon and Iran said.
Top Iraqi militia commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, an adviser to Soleimani, was also killed in the attack, a militia spokesman said.
The high-profile assassinations are likely to be a massive blow to Iran, which has been locked in a long conflict with the United States that escalated sharply last week with the storming of the US embassy in Iraq by pro-Iranian militiamen following a US air raid on the Kataib Hezbollah militia, founded by Muhandis..."

This is huge. I'm not sure how to feel about it... I guess if you really must be the big kid on the block over there you need to be willing to show the lesser bullies who's in charge. And that's one way to do it.

There will be retaliation. We will pay more at the pump for a bit. But I'm glad we have a President who will counterpunch.
We do need to be careful not to get into a more conventional form of war. The clerics in Iran desperately want war to legitimize their reign over a restless young population. War with the Great Satan would accomplish that.

Re: The Iran War
I just enjoyed five entertaining minutes of CNN coverage of this. They are keying in on Pompeo stating that the strike was countering an "imminent attack". You can see the liberal gears clicking in their brains to find another impeachment article. I expect a full House investigation on the intel behind this imminent attack that Iran was cooking up.

Agree with you on the conventional war. Hopefully Trump doesn't get suckered in.

It's a bold move, Cotton. Surely, our government will show the world the proof that led them to decide that this fellas needed to be assassinated. Targeted killings are legally murky at best.

Negotiate with Iran. That's rich.
He tried negotiating with North Korea already. I think he's learning how mud-people operate by now.
