Because that’s what we are- and it doesnt mean we need to sprinkle more socialist sugar into it

Don’t worry, the debt will become important again and austerity will be preached the next time a Democrat is in office.
You mean *real* debt?

Or the artificial “debt” that buried the Soviet Union? That debt?

Don’t go conflating Congressional largesse spending with capitalism/socialism

people might think you’re dissembling... or just listening to yourself talk

Steve makes some excellent points in defense of capitalism What do you think Kalm?
I'll just comment on this statement:
Every time the U.S. has enacted big tax cuts, its economy has blossomed. The economy's post-Obama pickup came from the 2017 tax reduction and deregulation.
There hasn't been a post Obama pickup. The economy has continued basically as it was going. Also, there was a definite upshift in the economy that continued through Clinton's tax increases.

Forbes is playing upon the same basic false premise that there has been a notable change in the economy since Trump got elected. And there hasn't been.
John you focus on one small part of the article and focus on it because it's positive about Trump? Pull your head out of the sand, your rectum or wherever it's stuck and look at the bigger picture.

Kalm, nothing to say about your beloved Scandanavian countries moving away from socialism?

The article and Forbes aren't perfect but they make some good points.

CID, the patient already has diabetes comment is killer and I'm stealing it.

Fair enough...if you promise to no longer yconflate supply side with long term growth that benefits the middle class. Give me a credit card without restrictions and I can make it rain too.

For those interested...here’s a far better take than Forbes.

Why do you want me to promise something I’ve never done?

Supply side economics has its problems too - but as with all things a careful consideration of the alternatives makes it pretty clear it is the least of many evils

Okay Dokay.

As you know, I like capitalism. Regulated capitalism with a sprinkle of social safety nets and infrastructure despite the peril that comes with each. That is not supply side.

But I get it. Supply side produced my cheap Chinese crap and expensive danish furniture so I guess I shoukd be grateful.

Have to come at it from the perspective of a gutter. ;)

Dow has best June since 1938. 81 fucking years. Another record blown out of the water.

Cue JSOTDS to tell us how it’s simply a continuation of Obama’s economy.

Arguing that Trump’s economy is a continuation of Obama’s economy might actually be one of the only truly worthy debates of this presidency. There are legitimate data points supporting both sides of it - not just insignificant partisan pablum (like the Japanese using color coded charts to world leaders)

https://www.forbes.com/sites/chuckjones ... 7dad421af3

Forbes is decidedly anti Trump, but outside of deregulation by executive fiat, Trump really hasn’t done much in terms of overt economic development.

The way I would put it is that we are basically in the same situation we were in during the previous years of the recovery that started in 2009. One could debate whether or not it's SOMEWHAT better than it would've been otherwise but we are pretty much basically in the same place as we would've been if things had continued in the same way as they've continued since the current recovery began.

The idea that Trump "turned things around" is ridiculous. He took over when things were going in a positive direction and things have continued in a positive direction.

Now, that means I was wrong. I did not think things would continue in a positive direction But, still, that is all that has happened.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Maybe not from your government shell, but from a businessman’s standpoint I beg to differ. Deregulation. Tax cuts. Pipeline. Industrial jobs.

If he’s so fucking stupid and evil (as JSO claims), why has NO OTHER PRESIDENT reached these milestones he keeps breaking?

Lowest unemployment in 50+ years
Lowest African American unemployment in 50+ years
Lowest Hispanic Unemployment in 50+ years
4.5%+wage growth YOY
Longest sustained economic expansion EVER
Best stock market June in 81 years
Best NASDAQ June in 54 years
Highest business confidence reading EVER
US becomes worlds largest oil producer

I mean, the list goes on and on. And these aren’t 5, 10 or 15 year old records that are being shattered. Like records set before most of us were BORN. If it was so easy, Obama could have done it. Or Bush. Or Clinton. Or ANYBODY.

If you want to believe Obama generated great oil production, then you will need to be known as JSO II.
