I don't always agree with his policies, but he is one of the few that puts principals before party. So I can trash some of his polices while respecting his sincerity.

Also, it's not so much about how Flake and Amash voted. It's about the fact that they were willing to publicly State that Trump's dishonest and otherwise atrocious behavior is not acceptable in a President. Amash is correct in saying he should be impeached. I checked the Mueller report to make sure he was accurate when he said that report indicates Trump directed McGhan to create a false record to deny that Trump told McGhan to see to it that Mueller was removed. And it does. The report does indicate that he directed McGhan to see to it that Mueller was removed and it does say Trump directed him to create a false record saying he did not. There is no way someone who would do that in the context of an investigation like that should be allowed to remain as President of the United States.

I thought Clinton should have been removed for lying but, to me, his offense was not nearly as serious as Trump's.

We all know that if a Democrat President did what Amash cited as his reason for saying Trump should be impeached the Republicans in Congress would be unanimous in demanding his or her removal from office. And it's possible that the Democrats would be acting like the Republicans are now.

That strongly speaks to Amash's integrity. He is a rare bird. He is speaking the truth instead of maintaining a Party line even when that Party line is wrong.

Correct. Jeff Flake is disliked by pretty much everyone in Arizona because he is, well a Flake. As noted, Flake would put on a big show, furrough his brow dramatically, then vote in lock step with Trump.

He gets mocked endlessly on social media for his sanctimonious BS.

I know Jeff Flake has a conservative voting record (though he did vote against an amendment requiring completion of a fence along the United States/Mexico border in 2013). But he recognizes that there are problems with Trump. Policy wise, he does disagree with Trump's protectionist trade policies as well as his immigration policies.

The bottom line is that it would have been very easy for Flake to suck up to Trump and get re-elected. He did not do that. The thing that created a situation whereby he could not get through a Republican Primary is that he was willing to criticize Trump. He knew that. He could at any time have fallen into line.

Judging from his recent interviews, Amash probably figures that he should give his House seat a shot as an independent. I don’t think he could win a 3-way race as a Libertarian, given the LP’s poor track record in electing anyone at a higher level than a state legislative seat.

He took the high road. That's the thing. It's like when people acted like there is something wrong with what Jeff Flake did. Jeff Flake knew that he could not, in the context of what's going on in the Republican Party right now, maintain integrity and principle and get through a Republican Primary. So he left. That's not cowardice. That's integrity.

Same with Amash. He realizes that he cannot maintain integrity and win a Republican primary right now.

The slime balls are those Republicans like Lindsay Graham, Mitch McConnell, Kevin McCarthy, et. al. who suck up to the atrocity that is Trump because they want to get through Republican primaries. They will not speak the truth.

Jeff Flake spoke the truth. Jusin Amash speaks the truth. And the fact that they are no longer Republican office holders is not a poor reflection on them. It's a poor reflection on the Republican Party.
But Jeff Flake is still a Republican. And, rather than switch to independent, Flake pulled a “brave, brave Sir Robin” and buggered off. He’s now a well-compensated consultant to CBS News, thus becoming the MSM’s favorite Republican du jour.

Equating Jeff Flake with Justin Amash doesn’t pass the laugh test. :dunce:
Nothing JSO posts passes the laugh test.

Here’s the REAL laugh

Amash gets the LP nomination, Clitz votes for Harris, and then spends the next 4 years trying to maintain his aloof “above the fray” reputation on CS

that reminds me of something... i cant think what it is

So Amash is now thrashing Trump on Twitter for the “go back” tweets against the Gang of Four or whatever you call them.

He’s turning into a self-righteous common scold who wants to be the CNN Pinup Boy of 2019. He’s catching “Kasich disease.” I could get tired of Amash real quick.

The Jill Stein vote allows me the distinct pleasure of talking sh!t about whoever gets elected (regardless)

I voted for Obama in round one - then had to back out and vote for Stein in round 2

He's right to call out Trump's blatant racism. Too bad none of the GOP has the spine to do the same.
