Well, its the 1 time a year NASCAR does it, with the trucks tomorrow night at El Dora on FS1:

We have hit up El Dora a few times for The Dream, I love that place. Great people, awesome area to park the RV and a crazy ass race.

Wow. Shots fired again. Honda power is for real. Verstappen takes pole at Budapest after winning 2 of previous 3 races. Red Bull looking to have overtaken Ferrari as the #2 team after Mercedes. They are probably too late this year, but may be worthy 1A and 1B with Merc next year. Somebody has to pick up the slack for the slacker Italians.

Dover Downs knocked down its original (archaic) 1969 cup series open-air garage and rebuilt a state of the art one in between the two race weekends this year:

F1's August holiday is finally over. Qualifying for the Belgian GP at 9ET. Ferraris looking pretty good on F1's longest track in practice. They do well when they can really open up. It's the turning they haven't mastered like Mercedes.

Hamilton caught a curb and went off into the tire barrier in P3. No injury. They should have him fixed up for qualifying. Left front of car was torn up. It was comical to see the Mercedes mechanics scrambling to get tarps out to cover the car and ward off spy shots. He was pacing about 4th/5th in practice.

Driver news:

Mercedes exercises one-year option on Bottas for 2020.
Mercedes reserve driver Ocon moves to Renault for 2020.
Red Bull curiously makes a statement yesterday that they may reach outside their driver pool for a driver in 2020.
It's curious because even though Vettel is under contract with Ferrari for 2020, he would be the likely reason Red Bull made that statement. If Vettel leaves for Red Bull, Ricciardo is the rumored Ferrari backfill.
Red Bull, with a rapidly improving Honda power unit, would look scary good with Verstappen and a rejuvenated Vettel next year. I hope it happens. Hamilton would have to earn that 7th championship to tie Schumacher.

Ferrari with the front row lockout. Should cruise to victory tomorrow unless they do something dumb (not unusual for Ferrari).

Hamilton is up by 62 points with nine races remaining. He could effectively sit out two races and still be in the point lead. So his goal is to stay out of trouble, finish ~3rd or better the rest of the races, and pick up his 6th title. It'd be cool to see him clinch at the USGP.

There isn't any hype with Ricciardo due to his age. He's a solid driver though. If I had to fill a spot and I could pick anyone, I think my top 5 would be: Hamilton, Verstappen, Ricciardo, Leclerc, and that old fucker Raikkonen

Promising F2 driver Anthoine Hubert killed at Spa. Bounced off the inner barrier into traffic and was broadsided by Juan Manuel Correa. Hubert killed instantly. Correa alive with serious injuries.

Why are the Mercedes blowing up? Saw one on fire this morning. Announcers said that that was "another Mercedes" on fire.

They give the shit power units to the minor league teams.

You wanted the truth, right?

Another thing they'll do is if they want to try something new, they'll let an affiliate team (Racing Point or Williams) race that engine to test it first. Then the Mercedes factory team knows what works and what doesn't work for Hamilton.

Here are the teams using each manufacturer's power units. I've listed the teams in the order of precedence of quality of engine they're likely getting. Of course, the factory teams will get the best power units. Each team runs two cars, and they're allowed three power units per season per car. So, they generally switch to a new power unit every 6 or 7 races (20 races on the schedule):

Mercedes: Mercedes, Racing Point, Williams
Ferrari: Ferrari, Alpha Romeo, Haas
Honda: Red Bull, Toro Rosso
Renault: Renault, McClaren

Great finish at Spa. Leclerc with his first win with Hamilton breathing down his neck (0.8 secs and closing hard).

On a day where there was almost nothing on TV (golf season ended last week, NFL starts next week, no nationally televised MLB games during the day, 2 HBCU football games :? , ....), the Southern 500 was scheduled for 6pm ECBT. After a 3 hour rain delay, it started around 9pm and ended just before 2am. :ohno: :ohno:

I just thought it was funny that last season with Red Bull he was bitching about Renaults under-performing power unit...

...then he signs with Renault in the offseason. :suspicious:

Never seen anything like this. I've seen cars hit loose manhole covers that lost their welds on street circuits, but never anything like this on a dedicated road course, let alone a racing cathedral like Monza. Peroni, for some reason, was off track at speed and hit a curb.

The scene of delirious wops celebrating a Ferrari win at Monza is pretty awesome. Even when Leclerc cheats to win by forcing Hamilton off the track and Ferrari's paid-off sanctioning body gives no penalty.

Yeah they were talking about the beautiful life or something while Homie was punted up into the catch fence.

It might have been the 20th replay during a half hour delay or something.

Lewis Hamilton could clinch his 6th championship on Sunday at the Mexico GP but would need to beat Bottas by 14 points. More likely, he'll clinch in Austin.

Then it'll be just one more championship to tie Schumacher at 7. That will be easier said than done though with the late season rise of Ferrari and the improvements in the Honda power units at Red Bull. 2020 should be the most compelling season competition-wise since they ditched the V8s.
