What exactly is analogous to the Palmer Raids? Manafort? Stone? Those arrests were akin to the warrantless arrests of thousands? Whaaa?
Who is analogous to McCarthy? Mueller?
And, the red scares were about communists. Not Russians. Modern Russia is very far removed from communism. But, don't let that stop your "3rd major Red Scare" analogy.
Uh, no. Check your histories, there were some bad people who did bad things that were part of those earlier Red Scares. What made them scares was taking those smaller events and turning them into an unfounded panic about larger, more sinister motives and impacts. Like I said, this thread delivers on that point almost to a tee. And the Red Scares were about Russia primarily - them being communist just juiced it up better.
Ganny - I agree with Reek on this one
The previous red scares were fueled by actual facts... there was a worker’s revolution in Russia, and organized labor in the US at the time was being influenced by the domestic Communist movement. So there was at least a small factual basis for it.
Fast forward to McCarthy - there actually were closet communists at the State Department.
I think a better analogy would be the Roswell incident and Area 51.... there is actually a town called Roswell, and there is actually a country called Russia. The USAF actually has a base called Area 51 in the desert, and there actually was a Russian troll farm.
