I found this surprising as I don’t think there are many Mormons in Eastern Montana.

Re: Miscellaneous news items that don't warrant their own thread
So I left the house with my son for a doctor's appointment a couple of hours ago. Three houses away we see several police cars. As we drive by the house, we see guns drawn as they surrounded the house focusing on the back patio. We get to the entrance of our 20 lot subdivision and more police cars are blocking traffic. They let us go. Come back an hour later and the main road is still blocked. I pull over and after 5 minutes they opened everything up.
Got a call from a neighbor who talked to the police and said there were two Hispanic men that were apprehended for breaking in to a house and tearing it up. The two do not speak English and it's possible that a 3rd suspect got away.
I wish I had seen these guys to ask them what they thought about the new Burger King tacos.

Homo sapiens evolved 200,000 to 300,000 years ago. We've been civilized for maybe 5,000 to 6,000 years. I guarantee you that during the hundreds of thousands of years prior to civilization there was an awful lot of males taking what they wanted. Also, there was an awful lot of what we now call incest.
Even after civilization started there was an awful lot of both things. Genetic research, for example, led to the estimate that Ghenghis Khan has about 16 million descendants living today. I guarantee you that not every woman that had sex with Ghengis Khan wanted to. Also, incest was acceptable in many civilizations until just the last few hundred years.
I think it's very likely that, when the chain of ancestors for any of us back through 200,000 to 300,000 years ago is traced back, there is at least one link associated with rape and/or incest. And if that one link is removed we do not exist.
The objective reality is that, had there been no rape and/or incest in the history of our species, there would be Homo sapiens now but it wouldn't be the same set of Homo sapiens that now exists.
You know, King gets himself in trouble a lot but he's probably not THAT far off in a sense. Yes, if there had never been rape and incest there would still be a human population. But it would be a different set of individuals. It's quite possible that NONE of us as we currently are would exist without rape and incest.GOP Rep. Steve King of Iowa questioned on Wednesday whether there would be any population left on Earth if not for rape and incest, a remark that has drawn condemnation from both Democrats and Republicans.

Well, he (and they) would be right in a sense.. obviously over the millennia there have been progeny as a result of rape and certainly incest in early Neolithic communities.Chizzang wrote:That post was ^ a thing of beauty...CID1990 wrote:Every time JSO calls Trump an atrocity it makes me think about posts like this

But as usual, John goes for hard fact without context. King is a troglodyte and he says troglodyte things - he's not making a profound anthropological statement, he's just minimizing rape and incest, in the same way slaveholders and their protectors in the antebellum US claimed that black slaves were better off and happier in bondage than they would be if they were still in Africa.
I'm fine with cold, hard science. In fact I think we shy away from it in many cases (which is why we may never isolate the genes that makes one genotype more physically robust than another) for political/moral reasons
But using it as a "yes but" moment to apologize for a choad politician is asinine

My guess is that a lot of people would agree that rape and incest have played a major role in procreation over the years but it's a pretty big leap from there to questioning "whether there would be any population left on Earth if not for rape and incest".Chizzang wrote:That post was ^ a thing of beauty...CID1990 wrote:Every time JSO calls Trump an atrocity it makes me think about posts like this

A ban on ads featuring "harmful gender stereotypes" or those which are likely to cause "serious or widespread offence" came into force in June.

Well, if Adam and Eve were truly the ancestors of everyone, incest would have been right away. And plenty of rape in the Bible

But it doesn't detract from the beauty that was Johns post
his single minded bulldozer approach to rape incest and pedophilia are fantastical
and should be enjoyed to their fullest at every opportunity
and there's just enough (i"m making a pinching gesture)
scientific evidence to kinda support all of his weird sexual arguments
