Delaware Schedules The Squids Again (18th Meeting)
Delaware Schedules The Squids Again (18th Meeting)
In 2022. FBS schedule for the foreseeable future.
2019 - Pitt
2020 - NC State
2021 - Rutgers
2022 - Navy
2023 - Penn State
2027 - Penn State
Hope we have a Flacco-esque QB again by then. Our ass-kicking of the squids in 2007 still gives me goosebumps.

I do like that on a schedule that includes Penn State & Pitt, you chose to highlight the REALLY important game...

Re: Delaware Schedules The Squids Again (18th Meeting)
It used to be that Navy liked to schedule Delaware so they could get close to or achieve a sellout, even when we nuked their season, like in 2003 and 2007. Our fans were eager to make the quick trip down US-301.AZGrizFan wrote:I do like that on a schedule that includes Penn State & Pitt, you chose to highlight the REALLY important game...
Now that our fan base has mostly been enrolled in a nursing or a funeral home, I'm not sure what their rationale is.

How much coin is UD getting?

Re: Delaware Schedules The Squids Again (18th Meeting)
No idea. It's not a payday for us. It's more a historic regional rivalry with a school with comparable academic reputation. We get more for a home game, and we used to host Navy. Navy only seats about 35K. So it won't compare to our dates in Happy Valley (107K) or our past games at VT (65K) and our tour of the rest of the ACC the past few years.BDKJMU wrote:How much coin is UD getting?

Re: Delaware Schedules The Squids Again (18th Meeting)
Even if there's low travel costs, I can't imagine UD wouldn't be getting at least a few hundred k, as no one I-A games for free. Back in 2013 Akron, with only a 30k stadium, averaging about 18k fans, paid JMU 300k. G5s are able to pay I-AA multiple 6 figures because they get 7 figure guarantee games with P5s, and use that $$..93henfan wrote:No idea. It's not a payday for us. If I hear something, I'll let you know. Sometimes it's hard to get numbers since we're private/public. Probably easier to get it from a Navy board.

Re: Delaware Schedules The Squids Again (18th Meeting)
Not that important. We just need a I-A opponent for 2021 & 2023. Highly unlikely will get a G5 willing to play JMU, or pay enough. Looks like ECU 2017 might be the last one.93henfan wrote:If I hear something, I'll let you know. Sometimes it's hard to get numbers since we're private/public. 2019 WVU $550,000
2020 UNC $500,000
2021 ???
2022 Louisville $600,000
2023 ???
2025 UNC $500,000
Hopefully 2021 Maryland. JMU played UMD in 2009 & 2014, brought 10k ballpark fans both times dues to the high alumni concentration in the DC area. UMD has an OOC opening/no I-AA scheduled 2021. Didn’t think the Big 10 team were still scheduling I-AA, but UMD had Howard this season, and 2020 & 2023 Towson.

Re: Delaware Schedules The Squids Again (18th Meeting)
We played Maryland. That stadium has all the charm of Villanova, but with an upper deck!
It cracks me up that the B1G has Maryland and Rutgers now. Like, seriously, WTF?
And I thought B1G had mentioned FCS being verboten also, but la-di-da, look at the Nittany Lions booking the Hens twice. I can't wait to go to Happy Valley. Get to watch my two favorite college teams at the same time. Delaware should actually bring a sizable contingent to those games. That's kind of a bucket-lister.

Re: Delaware Schedules The Squids Again (18th Meeting)
Besides UMD, on the JMU board, based off FBSschedules.com, looking at the ACC, SEC, + WVU, Penn St, 2021 openings (Doesn't already have a I-AA scheduled, or a full OOC schedule):93henfan wrote:We played Maryland. That stadium has all the charm of Villanova, but with an upper deck!

That's it. Don't see a G5, any other Big10, Big 12, or a Pac 12, happening. Could be the 1st time since 2006 no I-A game for JMU.

For reference, Penn State's payout to Idaho last week was $1.45M and their payout to App State last year was $1.2M.
Idaho contracted while they were still FBS. An FCS is probably looking at more like $700K from Penn State.

They should have blown up the stadium instead of renovating, but it easily still compares with Northwestern, Indiana, Illinois... When you're in a conference with the Big House, the Horseshoe and Happy Valley... it's tough to compete.93henfan wrote:We played Maryland. Re: RE: Re: Delaware Schedules The Squids Again (18th Meeting)
Kinda. UD gets money from the state, charges a lower in-state tuition, and they take part in the program that guarantees college admission to in-state students who qualify, but UD still has a large amount of autonomy in terms of how they operate and what financial numbers they need to share. They're basically a public institution that acts like a private one and takes states money. UD's endowment is pretty significant, something like $1.4B (yes, billion).UNI88 wrote:Private/public? I was wondering why Maryland wasn't on there and see their endowment is only $355M? WTF?
Also, University of Texas system tops A&M with it's $30+B endowment.
